Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises' Chef/Partner Jeff Mahin and Chef/Partner Francis Brennan bring their popular California-style concept, Summer House Santa Monica, to Pike & Rose in North Bethesda, MD. Inside Summer House, guests find a laid-back, friendly vibe with an environment reminiscent of the Golden State, complete with beach house-inspired décor. The chef-driven menu highlights simple, hand-crafted dishes prepared with local and seasonally-inspired ingredients, many of which are prepared on a wood fire grill. A carefully curated list of California wines complements each menu item. A bakery counter, shared with Stella Barra, offers a selection of fresh-baked breakfast pastries, muffins and Mahin’s famous cookie selection. Direct trade, hand-roasted coffee by Intelligentsia is also served in both restaurants. Summer House Santa Monica is currently open for lunch and dinner daily, along with breakfast on Saturday/Sunday.

"We visited on their second week in operation, and we were thoroughly pleased! The waitstaff was eager and attentive, the menu was healthy, varied, and delicious. The crispy kale chips were a huge hit with the table, including my 20-month old daughter. They had an extensive selection of gluten-free and dairy-free options, and excellent choices for the normative diner as well.
They had the most thoughtfully, artfully constructed gluten free dessert I've had in my 6+ years of gluten-free dining: a gluten-free shortbread with Meyer lemon curd, orange marmalade, and toasted almond ice cream. IT WAS AMAZING. I dream of that dessert. I need to go back!
I was also impressed with their baked butternut squash boats, with rosemary and maple syrup. My daughter and I split the GLUTEN FREE Bucatini & Brown Butter Carbonara - I repeat- GLUTEN FREE - and it was the most delicious fantastic drool-worthy gluten free pasta dish I've ever had. My daughter slurped it up, I had to use defensive measures to protect my half of the bowl!
Our dining guest got the pan-seared rainbow trout, which came with mashed potatoes that she pronounced "the most wonderful mashed potatoes I've ever tasted."
Overall, we had an excellent experience. The restaurant is well-appointed, centrally located, and they truly understand gluten allergies and dietary restrictions. I felt safe there, and was happy to see how they accommodated my toddler diner.
In summary: The best new restaurant in the area. An instant favorite. I can't wait to go back for date night!"
