"The food at the bakery is very good but unless you have plenty of time and don't mind waiting for your order until you've almost lost your appetite, this isn't the place to go. The servers are not only slow, they are inattentive, water glasses go unfilled, bread baskets are empty and nothing is replenished without a request,"

Le Central is a neighborhood bistro located in San Francisco's bustling Financial District. A favorite of locals and visitors since it opened over three decades ago in 1974, Le Central's iconic red tabac sign has become a familiar fixture of Bush Street. Housed in a brick building, the restaurant's warm interior offers guests an authentic brasserie atmosphere. Handwritten chalk Plat du Jour menus, cozy booth seating and fresh flowers greet customers on every visit. Le Central serves traditional French cuisine such as Steak Frites, Onion Soup Gratinée, Rack of Lamb Persillé and our cassoulet which has been cooking for over 12,000 days. Le Central is owned by brothers Johnny and Paul Tanphanich who bring over four decades of French cooking to the restaurant.

"The food was excellent. The specials were very interesting. The white burgundy was excellent and served as a perfect foil for the softshell crabs."

"We had a fantastic meal, from the artichoke appetizer special to the lamb grilled to a perfect pink and finished with a light cheese came. The ingredients were local and fresh. The Sangria with peachy berries was a real treat. This restaurant is a definite keeper."

"If you want a wide selection of crab dishes, prepared with whatever degree of spice suits your taste this is the place to go. Don't expect atmosphere or a drink menu, just very good crabs."

Seasonal & Delicious.

With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes. Good times and thoughtful food are a way of life at Paul Martin's American Grill.

"We ate here for my daughters birthday , which included her sisters and her nephews. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating, which made all the difference to our celebration since the boys are 3 and 1 The elder loved the mac and cheese while the younger spent a good deal of time chewing a tiny piece of his mother's steak. We brought our own cake, since the restaurant doesn't serve birthday cake and they cut and served it at no extra charge. They were also able to provide both a high chair and a booster seat with a minimum of bother. The service was excellent and the food was very good, especially their raspberry martini made with house infused raspberry vodka."
