When Shinbashi originally opened in 1974 waitresses wearing traditional clothing served the then novel sushi and traditional Japanese dishes. Shinbashi became popular amongst Japanese businessmen visiting New York and the restaurant was reviewed in the New York Times by Ruth Reichi in 1998 calling it "venerable Japanese."
The new incarnation is following in the tradition of attracting Japanese guests but does so in a modern setting. The restaurant remains streamlined and cleanly lit so as to showcase the food. Quality of fish and presentation are of the highest standard and it is this attention to detail that is carried into the attentive service.
