In May 2008, Chef Scott Conant opened Scarpetta in the Gansevoort Market Historic District. An Italian expression that means “little shoe” -- or the shape bread takes when used to soak up a dish -- Scarpetta represents the pure pleasure of savoring a meal down to the very last taste. The restaurant’s seasonally-inspired Italian dishes offer farm-fresh ingredients and clean, earthy flavors that pay homage to Conant’s heritage and time in Italy. <br />

"I admit it. I have a bit of a prejudice against Italian food. Very likely too much pasta over the years, the knee-jerk versions of spaghetti that I've endured for so long just make me shirk from the idea. But what a wonderfully pleasant surprise to find Scarpetta and to sit down at this reminder that Italian food is more than just pasta. The room is broad and expansive, the service pleasant and attentive, but the food ... fantastic."

"ABC Kitchen has amazingly good food. Yes, we know, Dan Kluger continues to make brilliant food, that isn't a surprise. ABC Kitchen also tends to have an upscale clientele. Which sometimes leads to an atmosphere of haute couture, a certain feeling of rarefied air, a whiff of unreachable heights. It would be very easy for a restaurant to let it's self and it's staff devolve into the sort of narcissistic circle-jerking that so many higher end restaurants fell into during the 90's. But the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff has always been a wonderful salve to the hustle of the city - and it's actually gotten BETTER. The last two times I've eaten here, the staff is NICER. Which only makes me want to come here more. Bravo ABC Kitchen."
