"Everything we have tried has been a wonderful taste treat, beautifully presented. I love the small plates so I can taste more than one dish and share. The service is perfect. All-around a top-notch restaurant with an offbeat and casual air."

Reservations are only accepted for indoor tables. Outdoor tables are seated on a first come first serve basis.

One of Long Island's oldest and most colorful restaurants. From its start in 1905, Louis Zwerlein's "Kare Killer" was a most unusual place. One had to get there by boat since it was built on a floating barge anchored out in the bay. One of its side attractions was that it afforded a fine view of the approaching boats from shore. On occasion, a husband sighting his wife on a course for the barge would dive headlong off the far side and strike out for Great Neck.
When prohibition killed the Kare Killer in 1916, the business moved to a spot adjacent to the Town Dock, renting boats, selling chowder and other seafood. Another move in the early thirties placed the restaurant in its present location still on the Main Street waterfront. In 1954, it was expanded into an adjoining building that had originally been a blacksmith shop.

"The finest, freshest lobster is still to be found at this venerable institution, and they haven't lost their touch. Having seen many changes in the place over the 45 years I've dined here, I can say that the current incarnation is as good as it gets. Great staff, great kitchen, great fresh seafood. And a lovely view of Manhasset Bay, besides!"

"Our first visit to this restaurant for dinner made us fans of both the food and the warm, friendly folks who oversee everything, the Hall family. My filet and my husband's choice of a dry-aged New York strip steak were exceptional in flavor and perfectly prepared. The creamed spinach dish as well as the special brussels sprouts in a tangy sauce graced with mustard were superb. Great ambiance and great unhurried but attentive service round out the experience. Walk in as a stranger and you are greeted like a friend. Walk out feeling like family."
