Izakaya Kou is taking the idea of the traditional Izakaya and turning it into the modern gathering place where we offer high quality Japanese fusion tapas and various unique drinking beverages in a comfortable, modern and fashionable atmosphere. It is a place where people can linger with good friends, good food, and drinks in the heart of San Francisco.

*Happy Hour, Tues-Fri from 5:30 to 7:00p*

If you would like to reserve a Tatami Room, please be advised, each room requires a $200 minimum with 3 hours use of the space. The largest room, seating up to 8 is a $260 minimum.

Parties of 6 and more, please contact the restaurant directly between the hours of 4pm-10pm.

"It is closed to the holidays and the waitresses were wearing reindeer horns. Everybody was very friendly. I had 4-5 small plates each of which were quite good. I recommend the tofu (yeah I don't usually like it either), the pickles, the nigiri sushi, and the clam miso."

"We were looking for a nice lunch to celebrate a business success. While the food was very nicely done, the lack of service was quite a damper and become the primary subject of conversation.
A 30 min wait order. We asked four different times for our cocktails and were assured each time that they were coming.
A 20-30 min wait our first course came. We still didn't have our cocktails, bread, or wine. Finally our cocktails arrived .
We asked about our wine. By now you know the drill.
A 20 - 25 min wait for our main course came.
The service overall was fairly formal. Spruce recognized that they weren't delivery and ended up analogizing and comping us for our drinks.
We don't feel ripped off, but just very disappointed."

Salt House Tavern - A 75-seat, contemporary tavern housed in an old printing press warehouse built in the 1930’s. Exposed brick, original hardwood floors, 12 foot windows and oversized rusted iron girders. Contemporary American fare ranging from raw bar plateaus to local cheeses, appetizers and heartier main dishes. Wines from all over the world, local beers and an extensive cocktail list. Full menu anywhere you'll sit down - at the bar, the communal table, the front window counter or in the dining room!

"Our meal was very nicely done. an understated corn chowder, water melon salad, and the fish.
It was quite noisy and cramped (too clear an understanding of the conversations around us)"
