Morimoto's contemporary Japanese menu infuses traditional dishes with Western ingredients and preparation techniques. His seasonal and ever-changing selection of raw fish preparations will feature the freshest seafood available as well as locally grown fruits and vegetables from supporting farmers. Morimoto's signature offerings include Toro Tartare, presented in a shallow wooden tray with condiments including crème fraîche, wasabi, avocado, nori paste, chives, crispy rice, and dashi-soy. Tuna Pizza made with raw tuna, anchovy aioli, and jalapeno; Morimoto Sashimi, a terrine of seared Toro, smoked salmon, barbequed eel, tuna and Hamachi served with five different sauces in pipettes.

"We usually go to Morimoto for lunch and it never disappoints. The fish is always fresh and beautifully prepared, whether in soup, salads, sandwiches or sushi rolls. It's also an easy menu to navigate offering a selection of smaller plates (hot and cold) as well as "lunch sets" that combine several items for a complete meal. My only complaint is with the ramen, it's not really ramen but more like chicken noodle soup, so I steer clear of it. The miso soup with silken tofu, however, is a definite winner!"

In partnership with Michael Mina this modern izakaya and sushi bar in downtown San Francisco is a dream brought to life for Tominaga and Mina. Located at the landmark 101 California space in San Francisco’s Financial District, PABU combines rustic, old-world Japanese charm with modern, urban sophistication to create a dynamic, social dining experience. Requests for the sushi bar cannot be guaranteed.

"This was my first visit to Pabu and perhaps my expectations were too high considering the epicurean pedigree of those involved. The food was just "okay" without any novelty or nuance, and much could have used a bit more spice. One favorite was the chicken meatballs, very good and the accompanying quail egg sauce wonderful. The service was so lackluster that we never got a chance to look at the dessert menu. This is obviously a watering hole for the FiDi workers in the area and the bar is crowded and noisy after the workday is through (it opens at 3 p.m. during the week). I won't be returning, once is enough!"

Aged for almost 30 years in the Napa Valley…<br />Since its beginnings as a local gathering spot over 29 years ago, Mustards Grill has blossomed into a destination for all who appreciate memorable food, superb wines and a warm welcome. Mustards food is Chef/Owner Cindy Pawlcyn’s mix of American regional dishes with global influences. The list of “Way Too Many Wines” represents the best from appellations throughout California and the New World. <br /><br />Mustards is an American Grill, featuring flavors from around the globe. The wood-burning grill produces such favorites as Cindy’s famous Mongolian Pork Chop, chipotle –rubbed Quail, and the ½ pound Niman Ranch hamburger. The oakwood smoker fills the restaurant with aromas of BBQ baby back ribs and tea-smoked Peking duck. Specialties include Seared Ahi Tuna on sesame crackers and Crispy Calamari tossed with curried slaw. The eclectic wine list features hard to find gems from California, the American Northwest, & South America.

"Mustard's Grill has been a go-to dining destination for me and my family since it opened many years ago. My daughter even worked there for a time in the late 90's so I know the establishment, owner, and the menu, they're part of my life. There's always a bit of chaos involved getting to your reserved table (mostly because of the small bar/waiting area), but once seated a very professional staff takes over. On Easter Sunday our waiter noticed that I was not totally enjoying the tamale (recipe had changed) and immediately suggested I try something else, which I did successfully. That sort of generous attention to detail (and the diner) is what sets Mustard's (and Cindy's other restaurants) apart. I always look forward to my experiences there and I'm getting ready to return! The owner, Cindy Pawlson, joins Alice Waters as a founder of current California cuisine. She is a cookbook author and is currently a nominee for the James Beard restauranteur of the year."

"I love Cole's Chop House and I don't even eat red meat! This time I enjoyed a wonderful grilled prawn cocktail along with a lobster tail and baked potato, simply delish. I can't wait to go back!"

John's Grill has been a San Francisco tradition since 1908. This historic restaurant is one of the city's oldest and most famous and is a favorite of celebrities who enjoy great steaks, expertly prepared fresh seafood with excellent service and a one of a kind atmosphere. John's Grill was a setting in author Dashiell Hammetts, The Maltese Falcon. "This was my first time at John's Grill, don't know why it took so long! It's a San Francisco tradition and the walls are adorned with signed photos of every politician and celebrity in town (or passing through). It is also the official site for Dashell Hammet's Maltese Falcon (which resides on the second floor, it was once stolen and returned with great fanfare). I had Sam Spade's favorite: grilled lamb chops, baked potato, sliced tomatoes, reveling in the fictional character and his exploits. The food is basic and good, well-prepared, nothing off the charts, but you have to go to experience the old San Francisco flavor and ambiance. It's one of the genuine old time haunts like Sam's and Tadich's, and not to be missed."

"Celadon is one of my favorites in downtown Napa and it never disappoints. My only concern is deciding what to have: I love the small plates (two are enough for a meal) and the salads are scrumptious as is the daily soup offering. All that before I even get into the entree section of the menu or the daily specials, it's always a quandary deciding which luscious thing to have....Oh, and then there's dessert......"

La Note is an authentic Provençal restaurant in the heart of downtown Berkeley. Traditional breakfast and lunch bistro fare are combined with rustic Provençal dinners in a warm and charming atmosphere. The restaurant's owner won an award in excellence in 1998 for "outstanding storefront improvements" and rehabilitation of its beautiful 1875 building. The stunning interior patio is open April - October.

"Cole's is a favorite downtown Napa destination, a steak house that serves wonderful seafood dishes and a killer lobster bisque. Not being a meat eater I've not had the pleasure (which I hear from others is considerable) of their aged meats grilled to perfection served with wonderful sides such as creamed spinach, lovely salads and baked potatoes. The cocktails are amazing also. All in all a truly great dining experience!"
