Established in 1728, our historic tavern welcomes Middleburg locals and travelers alike to enjoy hearty breakfasts, casual lunches and intimate candlelight dinners in the traditional Virginia style. Oak tables, handcrafted furnishings, stone fireplaces, hand-hewn ceiling beams and thick fieldstone walls create an intimate dining atmosphere any time of day. Our culinary team creates seasonal menus using ingredients indigenous to both Virginia and the South prepared with the time honored cooking techniques of smoking, braising, and roasting. The Tavern’s home-style dishes are simple yet genuine and feature many local ingredients sourced from area farms. The wine list boasts a diverse selection of domestic and imported vintages and show¬cases many wines from Virginia vineyards while the beer list features a rotating selection of craft beers by the bottle. Join us today for a bowl of our famous Virginia Peanut Soup, Southern Fried Chicken, or our signature Crab Cakes!

"This is not a restaurant for the thin of wallet. But the service is impeccable and the meals are perfect. I don't have the budget to go here often, but in the 3 times I have been at the Red Fox Inn everything has been absolutely perfect. Each time was for a special occasion but when I made the reservations I never mentioned the special occasion. Yet, I was treated like a king. The staff is incredibly personable, and the slightest remark about anything you don't like is taken seriously and fixed immediately.
I read the reviews and just have to chuckle. This is a fine restaurant. Base your expectations on the costs. I have done $200 meals in DC and gone to the Little Inn. No, this isn't either.... but the price per meal is appropriate for what you have. To the fellow that got upset that his hamburger was overdone... I just think he was expecting "The Little Inn" when he got something local. That burger at "The Little Inn" would have cost him 4x as much.
So, if you are reading this and wondering if you should splurge for it. Do it. Red Fox is simple, elegant, and well above and beyond anything you will find elsewhere. If you want to get ridiculed, go to Teddys. If you want to be pampered, go to the Red Fox. The Red Fox will make sure that any err is corrected and in almost all cases, there are no errors."
