"Always a good meal with excellent service. We had dessert tonight, and should have it more often. All are made in house. The apple strudel and vanilla gelato were so tasty."

Inspired by the slow food movement of Italy, Osteria Coppa specializes in artisanal pasta and pizza while embracing a fresh, seasonal farm-to-table style. Handcrafted pasta and pizza, farm fresh toppings, artisan cheeses, savory house-made sauces, and house cured salumi reflect Executive Chef Chanan Kamen’s profound passion for making his cuisine from scratch using traditional, old world techniques.

Relax in a casual, urban setting in the heart of downtown San Mateo. Grab a seat at the bar, dine tableside indoors, join friends at the community table, or enjoy the sunshine outdoors (with heaters and shade umbrellas) on the festive “Coppa Cabana” patio!

"We have eaten here several times and have always rated it highly. Tonight was an exception, our server appeared to be new. He was unfamiliar with the wine list, and suggested that I read the descriptions. He also did not feel comfortable describing the specials. He did, however, offer to have the manager help us with the wine, who saved our evening. His description of wines, appetizers, and entrees were extremely helpful. We enjoyed the appetizers of burrata, early girl, tomatoes, and basil, and the oven roasted calamari. The calamari was tasty and tender. My husband had the special tortilloni with burrata, and I enjoyed the scialetelli with eggplant. We shared the salted caramel gelato and the bottle of wine!"

"Always a good meal with excellent service. We enjoy the relaxed environment and always feel welcome. Tonight we had the antipasti special; a nice variety, and the entrees - the special petrale dore; delicious and a healthy portion, the special lamb chop; very tender, and the calamari dore; cooked perfectly. We had a dessert trio that was also very tasty."

Translated from the Italian language, Vivace means "lively", which is exactly the ambiance at Vivace Ristorante where culinary creations join with excellent wines to celebrate the cuisine of Northern Italy. Highly regarded as one of the best restaurants on the Peninsula, Vivace Ristorante is located in the charming city of Belmont. The warm interior is designed as to permit the viewing of the talented chefs as they prepare an array of Italian dishes with emphasis in the regions of Piemonte and Toscana. With its exceptional cuisine, elegant ambiance, high level of service, and extensive wine list (2003-2013 Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence), Vivace creates a wonderful dining experience in which the gastronomia of Northern Italy is celebrated everyday!

"Our entire evening was perfect. The server knew the menu and was very helpful, and the dinner was excellent. Our entrees were the special bison,
the special crusted halibut, the special salmon, and a roasted chicken. You feel welcome and comfortable here; it's worth the drive.

"We would have given this restaurant a better rating if they had not been out of three of the main entrees. Only 2 of our party of 8 was able to have a first choice of their opted entrée. Also, the cobb salad did not have bacon or blue cheese when served to one of our guests. Outside seating was delightful, and the server apologized for the unavailable entrees, as did the manager. Our bill was adjusted and we were given desserts that were delicious. Overall, we felt that if an item is on the regular menu, it should be available."

Seasonal & Delicious.

With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes. Good times and thoughtful food are a way of life at Paul Martin's American Grill.
