Where southeastern Europe meets South East D.C.

Our aim is to put together the finest products of the New World and Old World for your dining pleasure. Perennially on the edge of great empires, the Balkans owes much of its food culture to its history, geography, and climate. The term Balkan is generally believed to come from the Turkish word meaning: “a chain of wooded mountains.” With a desire to introduce Washington, D.C. to cutting edge Balkan cuisine, proprietor Ivan Iricanin has created a dining space that will delight and indulge the senses. Primarily featuring “small plates,” Ambar will also offer wines and spirits from the Balkans not often experienced by the American diner.

Aqua 301 celebrates the culture and cuisine of Mexico taking contemporary Mexican cuisine and infusing it with modern flair. This is not Tex Mex! Chef Antonio Burrell tweaks traditional Mexican ingredients and flavor profiles through experimental ingredient combinations and serves it up waterside in Yards Park.

"There is finally great Mexican food in Navy Yard! I was pleasantly surprised about my entire evening at Aqua 301. The food was delicious, the prices were reasonable compared to similar fancy Mexican restaurants, the service was attentive and helpful, and they have a great drink menu. I will definitely be back, especially for their happy hour specials!"

Celebrity Chef Todd English is bringing a taste of Mexico to Washington DC by name of MXDC. An exciting new addition to an area in close proximity to the White House, MXDC brings a fresh perspective on Mexican cuisine while adding liveliness to an area known more for politics and business. This modern Mexican restaurant caters to business professionals whether they are looking to have a lunch meeting, let loose at happy hour with one of their signature margaritas, or just satisfying a craving for some delicious food. English appointed J.C. Pavlovich, who hails from Tijuana, to helm the kitchen. Iron Chef America fans may recognize Pavlovich from his reoccurring role as a sous chef on the show- he has supported Julian Medina and Bobby Flay.

General Manager: Mcgarrit Franco

This is like no Mexican food you have ever experienced. Under the direction of renowned chef José Andrés, Head Chef Omar Rodriguez takes traditional ingredients and techniques and elevates them to deliver dishes and drinks with exceptional creativity and refinement.

"I had a disappointing experience at Oyamel this past weekend. While the food was amazing as always, I was sat in the smaller dining room. There was a VIP party at the next table that definitely had the attention of the server, and the service at my table was lacking. This VIP table was also ridiculously loud, making it difficult to speak to the people at my own table. We skipped dessert because it was so noisy."

"I am not sure whether I will return to B Too after my experience. I thought the food was very tasty but the disappointing service made the experience feel less than fantastic. They refused to seat us until everyone arrived, which is annoying when there isn't a good place to stand and wait. The staff was over eager to clear plates from the table. Two people were still eating and staff was buzzing around trying to take plates away. Finally, before we had even received the check, someone wanted to clear the table completely. I had my elbow on my napkin and a busser came and ripped the napkin out from under me. Management needs to better train the bussers about when a table should be cleared."

Béarnaise transports the flavors of Paris to Capitol Hill. Located at 3rd and Pennsylvania Avenues Southeast, Béarnaise serves bistro fare in a humble, but chic, atmosphere. Inspired by their childhood memories in Montreal and Paris, Chef Spike Mendelsohn and his sister, Micheline Luhn, opened the bistro modeling their prix fixe menu after the famous L'Entrecôte St-Jean. In the lively dining room, guests dine on steak frites in leather booths surrounded by antique mirrors and vibrant artwork from Parisian galleries. Pair your meal with a bottle of wine and indulge in decadent desserts to make any meal feel like an escape to France.

"I tried Bernaise for the first time during restaurant week. I really enjoyed the food but was disappointed in the service. We received our drinks long after our appetizers arrived, our main course arrived while we were still eating our appetizers, and our check contained an item that we never received. The waiter never checked on the table to see if we needed anything, so none of ordered additional drinks, even though we would have if our waiter had been more attentive. Despite the poor service, I will return because the food was excellent and the menu had a lot of dishes I would like to try!"
