The word "Levante" is derived from "Levantine" which describes the eastern Mediterranean coastal region that today includes: Turkey, Greece and extends into Lebanon and Israel. The era of the Ottoman Empire and Alexander the Great, past rulers of the Levante region, is now history, but the culinary and cultural traditions live on.The tastes and flavors of that golden age come alive at Levante's. All dishes are made in the Levante tradition using only fresh ingredients. For centuries, these qualities have allowed people of the Mediterranean to eat well and live long healthy lives. Today at Levante's diners can enjoy the variety, freshness and the natural health benefits of this legendary cuisine. Levante's is the first restaurant group to offer eastern Mediterranean cuisine in a casual dining environment. Natural stone and light wood interiors envelope guests. Open kitchens and wood-fired ovens produce charcoal - grilled meats and vegetables, which are prepared in full view of diners.

Chef Isabella serves seasonal, artisanal pizzas and small plates inspired by the food he grew up eating in New Jersey prepared by his Italian-American grandmother. With heavy influence from Chef Isabella’s Mediterranean and Latin culinary training, Graffiato is anything but a traditional Italian eatery. Roasted potato gnocchi with pork ragu, chicken thighs with pepperoni sauce, charred octopus with tomato mostarda and mint, and hanger steak with pancetta and wild mushrooms are a few of the signature wood oven roasted dishes. Broccolini with red pepper relish and smoked beets with sheep’s milk ricotta are popular first plates. When the kitchen closes, the oven will stay fired to feed Washingtonians looking for a late-night bite.

"My wife and I went to Graffiato to mark our one year wedding anniversary. Though a bit loud upstairs, we were seated off to the side in a booth, which made fir a pleasant dining and conversation experience. We sampled a bit of everything, the grilled octopus and BLT pizza (special) were particularly delicious. Drinks were also excellent, including their Empire State of Mind (play on a Manhattan). The Dolcezza salted caramel gelato was an out of this world way to sweetly finish. Service was very good, and the manager stopping by with a champagne toast was a nice touch."

Ardeo+Bardeo, located in the historic district of Cleveland Park -- four miles from the White House -- is a neighborhood favorite serving modern American cuisine. The restaurant underwent a major renovation in November 2010 to enhance the modern bistro and wine bar, uniting the two restaurants with a 24-seat island bar. Executive Chef Nate Garyantes has crafted a menu which features cured meats, soups and salads, savory snacks, seasonal vegetables dishes and brick oven baked flatbreads. Ardeo+Bardeo has become a virtual “Who’s Who” of Washington. Those who frequent include Madeleine Albright, Jim Lehrer, Alan Greenspan and the former first family, the Clintons.

"This is a fun spot for a Saturday night dinner. We made a last minute reservation and were treated like VIPs from the moment we arrived. Our server Matt was terrific, well informed on the menu, making thoughtful recommendations for two folks who hadn't been to the restaurant before. We were initially seated near the upstairs bar, which was glaring with the light from four TVs, perhaps the only negative to the ambience. After asking, howwever, we were quickly reseated in a much more appealng and quieter space, which was perfect. My wife enjoyed the sushi (the Toro was excellent), and my diver scallops were delicious."
