Chef/owner Derek Barnes brings together surprising combinations of flavors and textures in a progressive American cuisine. Adventurous diners will appreciate Derek’s unique creations, and those with less daring tastes will enjoy his modern comfort food. Drawing from a rich blend of culinary styles and traditions, Derek is committed to bringing pleasure to all five senses when you dine at Derek"s. A semifinalist for the prestigious James Beard Best Chef South award, Derek worked with Emeril Lagasse in the kitchen of Emeril’s in New Orleans before opening his own restaurant on the SunCoast. Derek’s talent for creating unique, delectable dishes has earned him Florida Trend’s Golden Spoon award, the "Most Innovative Chef" title in the Best of SRQ Magazine 2009, and inclusion in the exclusive 2009 Zagat America’s Top Restaurants listing.

"We missed Derek when he moved from Sarasota - boy what a great restauant that was.
Very enjoyable lunch, but please, please educate your servers about wine service. The bottle we ordered was poured right away into our 4 glasses - no one was asked to taste it!
Otherwise service was adequate, but not nearly as good as in Sarasota
We will return asap, if we can stop the wine pouring it will be even better"

Who is Jack Dusty? Jack Dusty, so named for the 18th century short-hand term for the naval store clerk whose responsibility included doling out the daily lot of rum to sailors and maintaining the ship’s inventory of food supplies, offers guests a bevy of dining and drinking options with indoor/outdoor seating and views of sparkling Sarasota Bay and beyond. Jack Dusty features modern classic seafood, offers a lively bar and presents a prominent cocktail program.

"We have dined here on several occaisions and have always had a great meal. We went to celebrate my wife's birthday and were dissapointed in the food. Not up to the standards we had previously experienced.
We had declined the waiters offer for dessert, but he still brought out fried doughnut - very greasy and way too much sugar - and then charged us for it!
I did not want to make a fuss in front of my wife, as it was a birthday celebration. I had worked in the restaurant industry in NYC for 40 years as a GM. and would never have condoned this behaviour.
We would seriously consider whether we woul return or not"

Offering one of Sarasota’s finest dining experiences, Treviso redefines the idea of “museum dining” with a unique and fresh approach. The clean, minimalist, modern dining room offers an enlarged black and white engraving of the city of Asolo, sleek and comfortable chairs and banquette seating and a stunning spiral staircase leading to the restaurants second floor dining room a favorite spot for winemaker dinners, private parties, rehearsal dinners and business meetings. The patio area boasts the best view of any outdoor eating venue in Sarasota. Treviso is located in the John M. McKay Visitors Pavilion at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, which allows guests to enjoy Treviso’s culinary delight beyond normal museum hours.
