Located at the base of the new Elan Westside luxury apartment development, Cooks & Soldiers focuses on the signature cooking methods of the Basque coast, a culture robust with gastronomic societies and some of the world’s best restaurants. The menu features traditional “pintxos,” or tapas-like snacks served on toasted bread; “raciones,” featuring large shareable plates; “asador” including a variety of wood-grilled fish, meats and vegetables; and “postres,” a selection of unique and modern desserts, a contrast to the rustic, savory fare.

"This was our first time at Cooks & Soldiers. we enjoy Siberian Pig and had read a positive review of Cooks & Soldiers. It surpassed even our high expectations. we tried probably 10 different plates among the four of us, sampling across the menu. everything was beautifully presented and tasted fresh, nicely accented with herbs and spices or wood grill, all in ways that enhanced the flavor of the particular food rather than masking it or trying to take it in some competing direction. service was excellent too. noise level was higher than i'd like, but tolerable."

Owned by brothers John-Thomas and Christopher Scott, Parker's on Ponce is Decatur's first independently owned steakhouse. The Scott family has always been extremely involved in the local community, including local government. The restaurant is named after John-Thomas' seven year old daughter, Parker. The whole family is often seen at the restaurant - it is not a business to them, but a home - and they treat guests of the restaurant as family as well.

"Food was acceptable but not what i would expect from a nice restaurant. the one exception was the beet salad, which was outstanding. specials were ridiculously overpriced. only one vegetarian dish on the whole menu and it was served at room temperature. i would go back for the beet salad but that's all."
