The Scene
The Syracuse-based barbecue phenomenon plunked a sprawling roadhouse with all the familiar back-road accoutrements into an abandoned meat factory. Unfinished wood-beamed ceiling, burlap bag curtains, scattered country bric-a-brac, and an enthusiastic greeting feel worlds away from the city. The roll call of devotees includes area families, couples on casual dates and groups of Columbia students.

The Food
Though fried green tomatoes and punchy boiled shrimp start things off right, the smell of smoking meats quickly adjusts the focus. The smokey-sweet pork ribs gently release from the bone and the Texas brisket, a touch dry, gets a lift from a topping of tangy cured jalapeños and a dash of hot sauce. It's even safe to venture from red meat with the truly moist and tender chicken, brined then smoked for deep flavor. With the exception of the cakey corn bread, sides keep pace, with tangy Creole potato salad and sweetened baked beans the standouts.

"Went for son's birthday dinner with 8 family members in party. Food was excellent and all had a good time.
Service was not good at all. Took too long to take main course order, waiter just disappeared for long periods of time, and it took forever to clear table after dinner. It is a fun place and food is terrific. Willing to chalk up service snafus this time to a bad day -- we would go back.

The newest restaurant from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, North End Grill is an exuberantly reimagined American bar and grill located in lower Manhattan’s thriving Battery Park City. North End Grill showcases a market-driven, seafood-centric menu that emphasizes a variety of grilling techniques, complimented by an inspiring wine and cocktail list, and a bar with over 100 scotches. The restaurant marks the exciting return of Chef Floyd Cardoz, following his win on season 3 of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters. The space is vibrant and airy with a bustling bar room, elegant dining room, and a beautiful open kitchen that guests can dine in front of.

"We had brunch with 8 people and a toddler, to celebrate a birthday. Staff gave us a perfect table, almost private. The service was excellent, food really good. My family had a memorable experience."

"We like the restaurants owned by this Chef. The food is really good,. Attention is paid to the details and it shows. Harpers is a favorite. This place is equally as good with a bistro menu. It fits the very comfortable space."
