"As always, a consistently great dining experience featuring truly fine steaks (of course) from the bistro steak frittes and Delmonico, to perfectly crisped softshell crabs that are second to none. The bar area is a visual delight and Bill Redmond, whether bar tending or managing, can always recommend a wine that delights and surprises, like a red sancerre or a phenomenal pinot. Our server, Katy, brought not only joy and humor to our table, but can be depended on for a suggestion, whether an appetizer, entree or desert. If a fan of Smith Island cakes, you might find one here as topper to the perfect meal. Plan on having a grand repast in a entertaining and engaging environment."

"Entertaining, engaging with food that delights, surprises and makes for a wonder-filled evening. Delmonico is second to none, rockfish with corn/shrimp remoulade a treat to revisit again and again, topped by a wine recommendation of a red sancerre (thanks, Bill) that brought it all together! Service made us feel at home and the interior decor/bar area is hard to beat for a comfy environment to visit with friends. All the best and congrats on doing "consistently great" so very well! We'll be back, we promise -"

Chalkboard restaurant, open May 2013 under Executive Chef Shane McAnelly, offers a modern small plates menu emphasizing seasonal and technique-driven fare. McAnelly sources much of his menu from local purveyors and farms, with many ingredients coming from the restaurant’s own dedicated 3-acre vegetable and herb garden located at nearby Chalk Hill Estate Vineyards. Highlights on the daily changing menu include crudos and tartare, house-made pastas, just picked salads, roasted and grilled meats and seafood. The dining room has been completely remodeled into a contemporary and welcoming space with an open kitchen, new banquettes, hardwood floors, hand-forged iron finishes. The bar has also been renovated to create a lively environment with new finishes such as a Carrera marble bar-top. Offerings of local wine flights and an extensive list of wine-by-the-glass are a major focus at Chalkboard, as well the cocktail menu inspired by fresh ingredients from the Chalk Hill garden.

"The food (tapas style) we had was simply outstanding; our waiter and sommelier were great, but the timing between courses was inconsistent and the plates were literally 'dropped off' at the table with little explanation and no engagement. With an improvement in the real 'serving' portion of this experience, our overall review would have been better and we feel it's an easy fix - the dishes, preparation and quality are so substantially high, we'll give it a second shot and review accordingly, in a few months."

"A restaurant can only stay on the Top 100 list by constantly being on its game with updates, fresh menu offerings, a broader wine list along with stellar dishes and great service; this explains why we've managed to enjoy every meal here for the last five years when we visit San Francisco.
Changeless, while changing all the time: the food is timeless yet always different - consistent, elegant preparation, delights in taste and texture in a totally fun environment, year after year."

Chef Jason Fox takes a decidedly global approach to California's tradition of showcasing local, seasonal foods by incorporating diverse culinary ingredients and techniques. "How excellence is maintained/sustained is no mystery here - from the front door, to the waiters and into the kitchen, we've been treated like royalty as have our palettes. What's wonderful is the quality & bravura visited upon seafood, not to mention meat dishes, like lamb. A starter of grilled octopus is second to none and the Chilean seabass is always buttery with a hint of crisp on the outside; mesogiaki (bean salad) a consistent treat, brings smiles while the wine list delights, whether it's the notorious blue bottle (Santorini) or the wonderful red, Amethystos..
With the preponderance of seafood restaurants, this one is a stand out because it covers not only surf so well, but also turf, to the nines. Congrats, kudos, thanks, G & K"
