"I had some friends come in town and were eager to go someplace near the Santa Monica Pier where they would be near the water. Why not go to the pier? Al Mare seemed to have some decent reviews so I figured we would try it. No trouble getting a reservation for seven on a Saturday evening. I was so disappointed. We were greeted by a very nice young woman and a couple (who I assumed were the owners). We were seated in a drab downstairs room with little to no ambiance. But it was quiet as we were the only ones there. Service started pretty good. We were brought bread rolls and water asked if we wanted a drink. The waiter got back to us and we gave him our order. That's where it went downhill. Salads came out wrong and one not at all. Tomato soup tasted like it was straight out of a Campbell's can. After what was then a long wait, we finally got our food. Portions are ENORMOUS. So if you want lots of food, this place may be for you. Unfortunately, the huge portions and pizzas just were not very good. And it was nearly impossible to get anyone's attention for cheese, dressings and water. Finally finished the meals and cold pizza and waited ... waited ... waited for someone to come by so we could get a check. FINALLY! Paid and left, but on the way out, the hostess and one of the owners were just sitting at the front desk. If I have any suggestions, get out from behind the desk, grab your husband and walk the floor. Talk to the patrons. Find out what is going on. Sorry, we won't be back."

Crossroads refines the Los Angeles dining scene, and is helmed by culinary trailblazer, Chef Tal Ronnen. Highlighting small plate dining with a Mediterranean influence, Crossroads features the cuisine that Ronnen is famous for; beautifully presented plant based dishes that are flavorful and innovative. A rotating selection of custom-made libations, artisanal small batch spirits, and a thoughtfully crafted wine list complement the fare. The imaginative and ever-changing menu with dishes approached with a conscience manner, is inspired by seasonal Southern California ingredients.

"The food was generally very good, but I was disappointed in the flatbread and service. The server was very nice and knew his menu, but seemed to be trying to serve too many tables. It took WAY too long to get a glass of wine - in fact our first course got to the table before the glass of wine. No excuse. When bussers came by the table (infrequently), if we hadn't asked for water refills, the bottles would have stayed empty. Having said this, I would definitely return and would recommend it to others. The kitchen certainly knows what they are doing, just need a little front-of-house work."
