Once upon a time in Moscow & St. Petersburg, a mythical woman named Mari Vanna welcomed diners into her home with open arms, feeding them traditional Russian fare on her finest china and linens. All were welcome and those who frequent were graced with a key of their own to return whenever they wish to this cozy retreat. Now in present day New York City on a popular block between the Flatiron and Gramercy, Mari Vanna has taken up residency and awaits hungry New Yorkers, neighbors and tourists alike who are looking to eat, drink and be merry and finally understand what true Russian hospitality means.
The menu offers time honored Russian classics such as the flavorsome customary soup Borsch with Pampushka, Beets, Broth, Beef, Cabbage, Carrots and Potatoes served with Sour Cream in a beautiful tureen that holds enough for seconds or third. Mari Vanna is open for lunch, brunch and dinner 7 days a week.

"My wife and I enjoyed our dinner at Mari Vanna last evening. I received a phone call to confirm our reservation and was told that we had to vacate our table by the end of two hours (they should change that policy). We were met at the door by a charming hostess and taken to our table. Our waitress was from Siberia and very professional. The food was very good, but some of the prices were over the top. For example $12.00 for a bottle of sparkling water or $200 for a bottle of Absolute Vodka .. WHOA.
My problem was the noise level. It became impossible for me to converse with my wife. Just when I thought it could not possibly be any louder, they turned up the music. I understand that many like loud restaurants, but it is not for me.

"Dining at Tocqueville is a wonderful experience. My wife and I enjoyed a relaxed dinner last evening with wonderful food and excellent service in a wonderfully romantic setting. Although pricey, the dinner was well worth the expense. This is a restaurant that exceeds the expectations that any dinner would have at any of New York's high-end restaurants. We will return."

"The Union Square Cafe is Manhattan's truly perfect experience. My wife and I dine out most evenings and we usually frequent high-end restaurants, but this always rates a top spot. It starts when one enters the restaurant and is met by three lovely hostesses. They are charming and have a great sense of humor, so you immediately feel right at home. The wait staff is there when you need a question answered, when you need to order or just to make sure everything is perfect. They are professional in every way imaginable, and yet they never seem to intrude. The menu is diverse and the food is wonderful from the taste to the presentation. This is a great restaurant and one we always enjoy."

Monument Lane is a New American restaurant in the West Village that focuses on farm-to-table cuisine. They use seasonal and sustainable products from local farmers and growers have been awarded Slow Food NYC's Snail of Approval for their standards. The menu changes weekly, if not daily, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to showcasing the local harvest.

Established in 2011 Monument Lane takes its inspiration from the area's pastoral past; a time when Manhattan island was rich with salt marshes and grasslands, pure estuaries teamed with mussels and oysters, and acres of apple and cherry orchards bloomed nearby. In the 1700's and 1800's, New Yorkers came to Greenwich Village as a retreat to the countryside; traveling a road named Monument Lane, now called Greenwich Avenue, where the restaurant presently sits.

"I dined at Monument Lane the other evening and found it to be a good place to dine, but not great. Let me start by saying the greeting I received when I first entered the restaurant was first-rate. Friendly, charming and with a good sense of humor the two young ladies chatted and walked me to my table. I ordered a martini, but only domestic gin was available. The cocktail was followed by a plate of oysters that were served in their shell on pebbles instead of ice. While that is appealing to ones eyes, the oysters were about room temperature, and the cocktail sauce was warm. I had the steak tartare for dinner and it was good, but not great (and again served too warm). This is a pretty restaurant that could be better with small changes"

Since first opening its doors in 1984, Gotham Bar and Grill has epitomized New York City dining at its finest, serving Executive Chef Alfred Portale's sublime and refreshingly accessible Contemporary American Cuisine in a dining room that is consistently packed with sophisticated diners from all over the country and the world. One of the secrets of Gotham's success is that it is an institution that has never become institutional. The unparalleled quality of the food and service are constants, but the rest of the Gotham experience is constantly updated to keep the restaurant feeling as fresh as the day it opened. New menu items are introduced each season, the wine list is always evolving, and the dining room is regularly revamped. Gotham Bar and Grill has been honored as Most Outstanding Restaurant in the nation by the James Beard Foundation, which named Chef/Owner Alfred Portale Most Outstanding Chef in the nation for 2006.

Chef Partner Julian Medina and restaurant group YB & Co introduce Christopher Gilman and their newest Latin hot spot, YerbaBuena Perry. Located at One Perry Street in Manhattan's West Village. YerbaBuena Perry is a chic 55-seater that stirs up an era gone by-1950's Cuba. The restaurant features Julian Medina's reinterpreted Cocina Latina cuisine complemented by signature cocktails, many made with Yerba Buena, a latin mint.

YerbaBuena Perry transports guests from the West Village to an exclusive club in Havana with a feel that is retro yet chic and sophisticated. Designer Welly Lai outfitted the space with floral wall coverings in sea foam hues and leather banquettes, setting a mood of elegance. The restaurant's focal point is an expansive hand-carved bar with an Italian marble top.

Julian Medina's cusine evokes Peru, Cuba, Argentina, Colombia, México and Spain. Yerba Buena Perry's menu includes Ceviches, Tacos, and Parrillada, an Argentine mixed Grill.

"Dinner at Yerba Buena Perry was a treat. The guacamole was exceptional as were the two small plates that I ordered after finishing the appetizer. I enjoyed a spicy pork dish served with coleslaw on a bun and the calamari was wonderful. My waitress was friendly and very professional and it made for a very good evening. This restaurant is usually bustling, but I guess on a late summer's evening the place was less than half full. This is a great spot to visit in the West Village."

"I had dinner at PlumpJack Cafe with my wife as well as my son and his wife. Three of us ordered the trout for dinner and it was good, but not amazing. The restaurant is very pretty, but the cacophony from the bar made it difficult to be heard. The prices are quite high for the quality of the food, and one should not have to wait twenty minutes for a scoop of ice cream."

Established in 1920, The Waverly Inn was reopened in 2006 by Vanity Fair Editor-in-Chief Graydon Carter along with Sean MacPherson and Eric Goode (of the Maritime and Bowery Hotels) and Emil Varda. Tucked into the ground floors of two adjoining townhouses, the dining room's red booths, fireplaces and low amber lighting provide an attractive and cozy hangout for the city’s best and brightest. Chef Ashley Merriman’s menu features American classics alongside contemporary seasonal dishes using organic, local ingredients.

"The Waverly Inn is a beautiful restaurant. There are a few tables located just outside the main entrance offering the perfect dinner spot to enjoy people watching in the West Village while enjoying a very good dinner. Inside is a beautiful bar and dining room. But behind the dining room is an open air garden area for that perfect place to have your dinner on a summer evening. The food is very good as is the service. The menu is diverse and the overall restaurant is definitely a treat. This is a place to which I will return."

"I frequent Chelsea Ristorante from time to time and I have never been disappointed. It always starts with a wonderful greeting that conveys a sense that they are happy and honored to have you as a guest in their restaurant. The food is very good and it is really a bargain.
