The legendary history of Diorio Restaurant began in the early 1920's. The late Rocco Diorio was responsible for the fine traditional food and many lasting memories for most of the people in the greater Waterbury area. The restaurant was closed in 1980 and reopened in 1991 after total restoration to its original splendor. The legend continues as we remain true to those endearing memories. We have the original marble bar, oversized mahogany bankers booths, tin ceiling and the most impressive acid etched mirrors displaying historical Waterbury. We offer a Private dining Room for corporate or private functions. Diorio Restaurant has once again reclaimed the reputation as Waterbury's finest. It's ambience, memories, history, and Northern Italian Nouvelle cuisine supply a new and exciting dining experience for the adventuresome palate.

"Thanks to rush hour traffic, our party of six arrived late to our pre- Palace theater reservation. No worries- our host had a great table for us and the waitstaff was fast and efficient. Drink and food orders were taken quickly. Bread arrived along with tangy sliced hot peppers- what a treat!
When our salads and appetizers were served, our group was thrilled with the stuffed peppers, sparkling shrimp cocktail and fresh inventive salads. Shortly after, our delicious dinners arrived - shrimp scampi, grilled pork shop, rib eye steak, salmon, and striped bass - everyone really enjoyed their meals thoroughly. Our server was spot on- she knew her menu and acted as if we were guests in her home, even though it was a full house on a Friday night. We still had plenty of time to make our performance - a short walk a few blocks away, thanks to this historic gem in downtown Waterbury. Diorio's hasn't missed a beat. It never disappoints, has been around for many years and this is why!
