FoodChick's Reviews

701 is a modern American restaurant with exquisite food framed by an elegant decor. Join us in our bar & lounge for our signature cocktails and small plates or dine with us in our sumptuous dining room. During the spring & summer, our patio is tucked onto the Navy Memorial plaza, with splashing fountains providing a very Parisian feel.

We offer pre-theater menus if you are going to a show, light fare in the lounge, and lunch at the bar specials for those tight on time. Our lunch menu is a favorite among business clientele; dinner is perfect for a special occasion or simply a special night out.

"Dinner for two: $140 incl. tax and tip, no alcohol
This meal simply was not worth it. The biggest disappointment was the mediocre quality of seafood, it should have been stellar. Caramelized Sea Scallops were cooked properly but absolutely flavorless. The veggies and marmalade in the dish were delicious. The Poached Shrimp in the glorified shrimp cocktail were not that tasty either, not fresh tasting. Rockfish w/ Dill Infused Broth, Winter Root Vegetables was good. The superb broth made this dish but we both agreed that we've had rockfish with more distinct flavor elsewhere.
Desserts were so-so.
Service was good--pleasant and attentive. I enjoyed the live piano music. 701 okay to chill at the bar and enjoy the music, dine elsewhere."

"Zest Bistro gave great service, super friendly people but the food was mediocre. I cannot recommend Zest; too many other great places to eat in DC w/ same food for same prices or less.
Zest is a lovely little cafe, where the people make you feel satisfied even if the food is not good... lol. That is quite a feat!
Coffee was good. Homefries were tasty with touch of rosemary. Chesapeake Benedict was served on thin halves of sourdough bread, instead of English Muffin, the crab cake was thin and about the size of a half dollar hidden underneath the poached egg. Their hollandaise sauce is VERY good.
Short rib-hash looked like mashed sweet potato with dark flecks. It tasted like apple vinegar. The hash is more of a side, not the primary food."

"New Years Day dinner. Service was wonderful. I liked that the music was actually in the background, not too loud so that we could enjoy conversation. Our waiter (Joseph) was very good and attentive. The shrimp kisses, which is why I dined here that night, were fantastic. While my grilled black grouper fish was cooked properly, I did not care for the flavor. I love grouper but this fish was bland. Perhaps 'black grouper' is different than (Gulf) grouper that I like. My friend had Phyllo Wrapped Monkfish, he said it was excellent. Our entire evening at M & S was relaxing, and pleasant. I rated the food 3 stars because I did not care for my fish but all other food was great."

Corduroy serves the best of the season with much of the restaurants produce coming from local farms. Corduroy is not handicapped accessible due to the historic nature of our building. No shorts are permitted.

"Christmas dinner was lovely. My salmon prepared perfectly. The crab blintze was the best , as usual. Service was good. Our waiter seemed to be overly busy with several large groups but the rest of the staff took care of us just fine. It is always a pleasure to dine at Corduroy."

Osteria Morini pays homage to the casual and rustic cuisine and ambiance of the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy. Osteria Morini is a casual Italian restaurant from Chef Michael White. In Italian, “osteria” means a place where the owner “hosts” guests, and at Osteria Morini, Chef White continues this tradition of hospitality, transforming his first Washington, D.C. restaurant into an authentic, old-world osteria with soulful food from the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy.

"Dining at Osteria Morini is like dining at a friend's place. The atmosphere is convivial, the staff pays attention to detail. The food didn't meet my expectations based on ratings and reviews, nonetheless, I had a good, relaxing dining experience. Must try: Mare - seafood salad. Cappeletti (pasta) wasn't to my liking. It was very soft, and flavorless except for the prosciutto. I liked the tender short ribs (Stracotto) but the dish could have a little less salt then perhaps the Sangiovese-wine flavor would come through in the reduction. The whipped potatoes were too salty and barely palatable. Brussel sprouts w/ pancetta were very good--caramelized, firm w/ portions of crispness. Standout desserts: Affagato and Tortino al Cioccolato."

"I have had the pure pleasure of eating at Corduroy on three separate occasions, each experience has been a spectacular festival of flavors. I love the way they prepare food; they create wonderment. Each food item is scrumptious and memorable. Add to this the impeccable, professional service and that is why Corduroy is consistently my favorite place to eat in DC. Enjoy a Lemongrass cocktail or two. The scallops & grits entree is to die for. Rare tuna is perfect. Save room for flourless chocolate cake. Homemade ice creams can't be beat. It's all incredibly good. Corduroy always earns 5 out of 5 stars as a fine dining experience. I highly recommend that you make your next meal out a visit to Corduroy."
