"This place is bizzy...noisy, crowded, popular, loud...ALLLgood cuz you know you've landed at the right spot in PV! Good last minnit OpenTable reso on Saturday night at prime time. Fabulous welcome by the host(ess)...complete with menu recommendations...immediate seating even tho' it looked impossible w/everyone on the planet in there. Drink choices are many/varied & I had a Fat Tire draft beer. The Ono ceviche, although pricey, is excellent as a starter. Their pork belly with cheezy grits is Gr8 but go to the gym next day. I ordered the lamb burger charred medium rare with duck fat fries and a fried egg on top...REALLY?...(2 obligatory gym days on that)!! Other menu items were VERY inviting including the seafood mixed grill and rotisserie pork served 'carnitas style' with avo/tortillas...etc. Last but not least dessert (R U kidding me, I'm such a 'P-I-G'?)...the dark chocolate fudgy cakey deal-eo w/whippage & berries...yummmm! I'm returning...oh yeah! Only question is B4 the gym or after....it's the weekend, tomorrow sounds gooood! N-joy!! Oh yeah...live music 2 ... fantastic!"

"Pull off the I-80, head here après-ski or just go ahead and make a special trip because you'll be really glad you did! Ashley, our intense and exuberant server, guided us through a meal that included many of the chef's specialties such as house made tortelli pasta filled with venison and served with a red wine reduction. We continued the meal sharing their "Monday Meatballs", perfectly grilled 1/2 chicken, awesome mashed potatoes and roasted cauliflower with pine nuts and lime. We finished with a fabulous dessert for two of their own honey-drizzled ricotta cheese which was soft & creamy like creme brûlée. It was accompanied by pomegranate seeds, blood orange segments, green apple slices and banana. Even my coffee seemed special. Our choice of wine turned out to be perfect as well. We chose a VERY reasonable bottle of Matthew Fritz 2011 prime red north coast. We were especially impressed, enthralled really, with Ashley, our server. Her interest in their menu offerings and ability to impart her passion for relating relevant information to her guests in a charming and effective way is remarkable. She could sell me sunshine in Phoenix and I would be happy to buy it even though I live there and get all I want for free...kudos Ashley...you're the bomb!!"

Chef Gio Osso’s intimate gathering spot is tucked inside Old Town Scottsdale’s Bespoke Inn, where his menu features contemporary cuisine inspired by his Mediterranean roots and global influences. Simply dubbed "honest craft," Chef Gio's menu changes weekly, and is comprised of reliable and satisfying mainstays like homemade pastas, hearty meat dishes and superb seafood. "Always on the prowl for new fine dining opportunities in Phoenix, now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long before heading to Virtu. On a busy friday evening we were able to snag a table for two and happily reveled in their 'honestly crafted' fare. For starters, the octopus, blanched and then grilled to ensure tenderness, is a must and so is the lamb tartar. Next time the asparagus and the mussels will reign supreme I think. As entrees we enjoyed the branzino and the guinea hen. Both were perfectly spiced and dee-lish. The branzino was a boned, stuffed whole fish presentation and the hen was placed on a bed of tasty and creamy chorizo polenta and topped with the most delightful battered and fried small cippolini onion rings…YUMMM! I did notice that the breast meat was slightly overcooked, bordering on dry, and I suppose, based on the manner in which the hen had been cut up that was perhaps because they cooked the bird whole initially while serving a half per portion…PLENTY! The short rib entree, scallops and the duck all looked wonderful (from our view at the next table over) and there was nothing that was in any way skimpy. We ordered wines by the glass and vey much appreciated the descriptive notes provided so we could make the perfect pairing with our entrees.
For dessert we chose the chocolate toffee sticky pudding with mascarpone cream cheese ice cream and by itself would have been reason enough to drive all the way to Scottsdale from downtown Phoenix for dinner.
The ambiance is lovely and was enhanced on the evening we dined because of a well attended (and well behaved) dinner party outside in the garden courtyard. The service was really quite impeccable. Our server, Jason, was knowledgeable, responsive, attentive and allowed us to enjoy ourselves to the max…thank you!
If you're looking for the perfect Valentine dinner spot, don't think twice, reserve at Virtu if they're not already fully booked & if so, bring your sweetie on Friday or Sunday!!

"I had wanted to 'test the water' at this still fairly new restaurant & my first opportunity was to attend a 7 chef event on a monday when they prepared a wine-paired tasting meal of all 'fowl' dishes…chicken, duck, gizzards…etc. Some, understandably, being more enjoyable than others. Overall, I was very impressed. It's a good place to go for a relaxed meal with friends and the food is definitely tasty. We returned a week or two later (with friends) for a brunch (we had overheard people exclaiming it's virtues) and, again, were pleased. The atmosphere I would describe as 'high-end Crackerbarrel' and, in fact, that description, which I do not consider a dig at all, is an accurate one in many respects. Service on both occasions was lacking somewhat in the 'impression leaving' department…something to work on perhaps?"

"Is that putting too much pressure on Chef Ripert? I doubt it. He must thrive on the quest for excellence every minute of every day. That is the only way the perfect confluence of food, drink, service & atmosphere can be achieved so consistently. Honestly, I feel like royalty when I dine at Le Bernardin and that's no accident…look around…you're surrounded by the 'toniest' crowd in town, eating the finest food and drinking the best wines in a room that in another era could only exist on the top floor of a grand hotel. There are other experiences that are similarly transformative but they have nothing to do with dining…if you know what I mean!"

"Just what Phoenix needs, another steak house, right? Well, okay then…nobody asked me so why not try it out! YUMMMM! The tasty, deep-fried deviled eggs are a cute idea & just a tad 'gimmicky' for a starter but next time (and there WILL be a next time) I'll try something else. The warm, just out of the oven rolls are excellent at the beginning of the meal. Looking at the menu in advance, I had thought I'd order the bone-in filet but when I saw it was 18 ounces (discounting 4 or 5 oz. for the bone) I thought that's just toooo much. I asked the server if we could share it as an entree for both of us and she didn't even blink…YES! Okay we're on…now I can load up on sides. Not exactly but we did also share lobster mashed potatoes ( a special side that evening) and butter & herb sautéed fresh corn…AWE-sum!! We ordered the filet charred, medium rare which, for the thickness of the meat was entirely appropriate. The entree arrived on broiler-hot plates for each of us and the meat continued to cook as we ate…perfection. The dessert, red velvet bread pudding, sounded a little better than it tasted…but it was good. I discussed my wine preferences (price point and familiar bottles) with the server and she was quite willing and able to recommend something we hadn't tried before but knew we would like. We really enjoyed the Stag's Leap Petit Syrah…excellent with everything we ate.
Service was top notch. Not too familiar but always there when required.
It wasn't a 'special occasion' meal but just being there that night and enjoying it as much as we did made it special indeed.
Try it…you'll like it!"

Jean-Georges opened in 1997 to critical acclaim. The jewel of Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s empire, the restaurant offers the very best in fine dining. Consistently awarded four stars by the New York Times and three Michelin stars, Jean-Georges presents exquisitely crafted dishes blending French, American, and Asian influences. Chef Jean-Georges is a master at maintaining the essence of ingredients while using them inventively to produce the best flavor. Jean-Georges’ chic and intimate dining room was redesigned by Thomas Juul-Hansen, with striking lighting by L’Observatoire. Impeccable service, tableside preparations, and floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning views of Central Park and Columbus Circle all contribute to an unforgettable dining experience. Jean-Georges offers a three-course prix-fixe menu and two six-course tasting menus: a traditional tasting of the chef’s signature dishes, and a seasonal tasting featuring fresh market ingredients.

"Whenever I have superior dining experience somewhere, anywhere really, the problem always seems to be that upon returning, with expectations soooo very high, they are dashed and then I think well, I just made too much of the original visit. It must have been good but not THAT good. WELL, Jean Georges IS that good…in fact it was really EVEN better the second time around! Pricey to be sure but worth every penny (watsa penny?)!! There's a line in a film I love…"You'll never be disappointed paying too much for the best there is." That applies here…just go. Enjoy!"
