Located at the Golden Triangle, Café Japengo is renowned for both fabulous Sushi and incredible fusion creations that combine Japanese and Western flavors. The energetic atmosphere and the trendy clientele make it make it a 'must' when visiting San Diego. Gluten free menu available.

"I was looking for a casual place, for dinner by myself as I was on a business trip, traveling alone. Conveniently located, walking distance from the Marriott La Jolla, I chose this place. The albacore role was really good, the Torrey Pine role was ok, but the other 2 I tried where very mediocre (rock shrimp tempura and golden tiger roll) at best.
I will not come back here.

"If the bill had not been 150$ per person (did include 2 bottles of wine for 3 people), it would have been a 5* rating. First) the location, the view, it's just perfect (on the ocean), 2) incredible food, especially the oysters as appetizer, and the tartare of PacIfIc ahI tuna. For entree I tried the Pacific ahi tuna, again, amazing. And lastly the dessert: banana foster: out of this world fantastic. 3) The service is very professional. So, if you are willing to spend a little more, this is the place to go!"

Conveniently located downtown between Union Square and The Moscone Center. Serving California cuisine with a focus on local, organic, sustainably raised ingredients.. Dating back to the early 1900's, our spacious dining room is warm and inviting with high ceilings and ornate columns. Our goal is to achieve an element of comfort; a relaxed yet lively atmosphere combined with great food, friendly and efficient service at a reasonable price.

"Conveniently located across Marriott Marquis, I chose it to meet a friend who was in town for a conference and staying there. Not bad, but definitely not great. We arrived about 20 min early (6:40 with a 7:00 pm reservation). Many empty tables, but ours was 'not ready'. The service was also just ok, but just not great. The calamari as appetizer to share where again just ok, nothing special. I tried the vegetarian lasagna (although the have a different name for it, that is what the waiter described it like). If it had not been way too salty, it could have been a great entree.
Altogether, not worthwhile coming back to.

"It was too cold this time, but previously I have sat outside, on the Napa river. Great location. I tried the truffle crusted cod and it was amazing. Shared the beet salad, modest serving, but for us it was perfect. For dessert the 'donuts holes' cinnamon and suger coated, also delicious and for us at least, the perfect (modest) size to share."

"Only one thing to think about. Do you want to spend 150$ or more per person, and easy to go higher. If that is not the issue, you must come here. Best steak I ever had. Amazing service. Great wine selection. We both had the filiet mignon, because that is just my favorite, but many other choices of 120 days aged cuts. Sides (too many to try of course) are very creative. Appetizers: I tried the house cured salumi selection, my friend the gnocchi. Both amazing choices. No space for dessert, sure it wold have been amazing too."

"The sushi is pretty good, although, the next day, we found a (more expensive) better shushi. Went for late lunch, around 3pm. The hostess walked us over to table and in the short time it takes, asked the same question twice ('how is your day going'?). I know these are standard questions, but it does normally sound friendly, not so much when you don't listen to the answer and ask it again, second after the answer, than it just become annoying to even rude. The waitress hopefully had a bad day, if this is her normal, she should not be in the service industry. She clearly did not want to be working/ servicing."

"Take the stairs along the Stockton st tunnel and this charming, small restaurant is right around the corner on Bush st. People who think good food equals large portion size, should not bother to come here. It's about the quality of the food and you will be amazed. I tried the Charcuterie Selection, just out of this world! With a glass of Bouchard Aine et Fils Fixin 2010. Followed by the red snapper and the Tart of the Day (Blue Berries when I was there). I am not French, but would dare to say this could be what is like in France, including the friendly waiters who will speak French if you do (my friend does). A unique experience!"

Per Diem’s menu is centered on the use of fresh ingredients and inventive flavor combinations paired with classic cooking techniques. Starters such as the Burrata on a Grilled Crostone with Marshall’s Farm Honey and Toasted Nuts or a San Francisco original, Cioppino with Mussels, Scallops, Prawns, Crab and Calamari make for a quick, light bite. Enjoy one of many delectable sandwiches such as the Oyster Po Boy with Cornmeal Fried Local Oysters, Baby Romaine, Pickled Veggies and Remoulade on a Soudough Roll or the Ham and Brie with Dressed Organic Greens on a Sourough with a Persimmon Chutney. Try Per Diem’s mouthwatering Pizzettas: Margherita with Burratta, Cherry Tomatoes and Fresh Basil. Entrée dishes such as the Truffle and Tomato Brisket with Bloomsdale Spinach and House Made Ricotta Lasagnettas and the Confit Maple Farms Duck Leg over Blue Cheese Tortellini with a Pomegranate Fume offer patrons a well-portioned evening meal.

"I was a little in doubt based on some reviews critiquing the service. Clearly, the restaurant has been reading the reviews and the did a great job. The cheese selection as appetizer was ok, not amazing. The wine selection is pretty good. The lasagna I had as entree, was amazing."
