The raw talent, experience, and passion of two young people is the foundation for South End, a neighborhood restaurant and gathering place in the charming town of New Canaan. Chef/Owner Nick Martschenko and General Manager Michelle Cooper bring seasonal comfort food and inspired libations together with an atmosphere that is casual, familiar, and befitting of a small urbane town.

The design combines the old with the new. Rustic hardware elements are set against reclaimed barn wood paneling, and light fixtures are antique in design, while utilizing a more contemporary flare. Beige Italian linen drapes are complimented by contrasting black tufted linen upholstered banquette seating. Oversized color prints of a misty countryside and farm animals are a nod to Chef’s sustainable food practices.
The Livanos family, owners of Oceana, Molyvos and Abboccato in Manhattan, are opening the Moderne Barn, American restaurant and an extensive wine cellar. Personal wines are welcome, corkage fee applies, $45.

For your next special occasion, inquire about our specialty cakes. We would be happy to assist you with pricing and details. The J House Restaurant's All-American menu incorporates the Chef’s many global influences. He uses locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, and embraces sustainable practices. With cooking in full view, seasonal flatbreads, roasted vegetables, market fresh fish, free-range poultry and grass-fed beef preparations take on the wonderful smokiness of the wood-fired open hearth. Vibrant salads, comforting pasta dishes, and artisan foods, such as a revolving cheese selection, round out the innovative menu. Menu highlights include; J House Restaurant seafood carpaccio, spicy prime beef tartare, roasted local beet and artisan burata, roasted forest mushroom toast, roasted sockeye salmon and baby artichoke, homemade duck sausage pizza, flat noodle pasta and Maine lobster, organic farmed roasted chicken, and grilled tuna steak grilled rare.
