Alvin & Friends offers contemporary cuisine with Southern and Caribbean influences in an elegant and sophisticated space; the dining room features dozens of stunning, Matisse-inspired oil paintings created by owner Alvin Clayton, part of the restaurant’s signature look. Described by The New York Times as “a darling of downtown New Rochelle,” Alvin & Friends– selected by Open Table users for a 2015 Diner’s Choice award and winner of a 2015 Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor -- offers live music on Friday and Saturday nights as well as a jazz brunch on Sundays. Located across Memorial Highway from the New Rochelle Public Library, Alvin & Friends offers plenty of parking in the municipal lot adjacent to the library as well as the covered parking lot next to the Halstead apartments. Call (914) 654-6549 for reservations.

"The food is excellent at Alvin's...the fried chicken is amazing, great crunch and fabulous kick served with perfect mac n cheese, not your kids mac n cheese, this has great spice in it and delicious collard greens. The space is so warm and inviting. The shrimp and grits and fried green tomato's are all the right southern touches. And the desserts are delicious, just the right touch at the end of your meal. Try the shortbread cookies with dipping sauces! Alvin's amazing art work covers all of the walls and Alvin himself walks from table to table checking out how you are and of course how you are enjoying your meal. This is a great restaurant, with fantastic energy in the room. Really worth it !!"

"I had a reservation for 6 and we were brought to a table that was meant for 4. I told them I wanted another table and they proceeded to show me another table exactly like the first. When I said no to that table they brought us inside (we wanted to sit outside) to the right size table. We waited more than 15 mins and no service. I finally got up and asked for a waiter. Once we ordered, everything was ok, one pasta very under cooked. And the 2nd glass of wine we ordered arrived after we finished dinner. I said that I wasn't going to pay for the 2nd glass of wine and then a manager came over. She was very nice and comped all of our food. I said it wasn't necessary, but she insisted. I would try it again, most of the food was good."
