The Marais is reborn in Chelsea at Le Singe Vert, courtesy of the brass coat racks, long wooden bar, distressed mirrors and wicker chairs – all antiques owner Georges Forgeois sourced personally from his travels in France and North Africa.

In addition to the allure of the authentic surroundings, Le Singe Vert boasts a unique duality as both an energetic bistro and romantic hideaway treasured by a variety of guests: Singles grabbing a bite before a night on the town, families relishing a three-course meal and enamored couples enjoying a quiet evening in a secluded corner.

The menu of classic bistro fare appeals to this eclectic crowd, beginning with enticing offerings from the raw bar, to the outstanding steak frites, and of course the decadent chilled pot au chocolat for dessert. Although always festive, “Le Singe” is truly the place to be on holidays, especially for its legendary parties on Halloween, Valentine’s Day and Gay Pride.
"My fiance is Belgian and I found Le Singe Vert while looking for French restaurants near our hotel (6th btw 29 & 30). Although it was a bit of a walk on a brisk night we were not disappointed. If you arrive before 7pm they have a great $35 prix fix menu. We did not arrive in time to take advantage of that but one of the entrees caught my fiance's eye and he was thrilled. Quenelles de Brochet - which was a crawfish/pike/croquette like dish. He loved this when he was home and was thrilled to find it here. I had a small bite and it was tasty but for him it was pure heaven!
I decided on the CÔTE DE PORC PANÉ - breaded organic pork chop, w/ mixed greens, caramelized onions, shoestring potatoes...I wished there were a few more shoestring potatoes but the pork chop was butterflied and so tender and tasty. The breadcrumbs were not over powering and the delicate sauce on the side was a perfect addition. My only complaint was that it took over 10 minutes for them to bring my vodka drink. My fiance had just about finished his white wine by the time my drink arrived. They have plenty of staff so not really sure what happened there.
We loved the restaurant—one of those little store fronts that you pass by and don't give a second look but this one was a great find for us.
