Jeff's Reviews

A large percentage of our Chef driven, seasonal menu is sourced from local and regional farms. Pairing great beer with unique dinners, cheeses or appetizers enables us to elevate the growing culture of craft beer here in Washington, DC.
In our continued efforts to maximize quality and sustainability we make every effort to source the highest quality of food we can. Whenever possible, we reach out to our local farming partners located in Virginia, Maryland and even right here in DC for everything from produce to meats. We feature an eclectic contemporary American menu, but appeal to the masses with choices from around the globe as well as a wonderful selection of Vegan and vegetarian items.
We focus 100% on American Craft Beer with a strong emphasis on local and regional brewers.
Under the direction of renowned chef José Andrés, America Eats Tavern pays tribute to the country’s culinary legacy with a sophisticated menu reflecting native ingredients and classic dishes throughout history. Here you’ll find traditional variations of soups and salads, sandwiches, seafood and meats, as well as innovative creations by José and his team. An expansive seafood bar, variety of oyster dishes and selection of local hams reflect local and historical roots to complement the menu's seasonal offerings. A drink menu traces the evolution of the cocktail in America throughout a range of eras, while the wine list highlights local and remarkable vineyards and producers throughout the nation. America Eats Tavern’s patriotic and stylishly artistic setting within The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner is the perfect setting for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and serves as the ideal gathering place for and around the Northern Virginia and the Washington area.

Chef/Owner Robert Wiedmaier of Marcel's opens a casual, contemporary brasserie named after his younger son. The stunning space features an open steel and glass kitchen visible from three sides, set across from a unique family-style chef's table, dramatic 22-foot ceilings and a raw bar located at the end of a grand marble and walnut bar featuring an array of Belgian beers on tap to complement his French Belgian fare. Expansive outdoor patio is open April thru October. REAL certified by the US Healthful Food Council

"Brass Beck is really, really good. The frites are REALLY good.
We had a pot of the mediterranean and a pot of the thai mussels. Both of the servings were very good.
Also, the beer consultant (Dean) is a REALLY nice guy and I will be consulting with him each and every time that I visit in the future."

Featuring contemporary American fare with a focus on seasonal ingredients, BOURBON STEAK offers all-natural, organic and hormone free cuts of beef and the freshest seafood available worldwide. Prior to grilling, all meats at BOURBON STEAK are first poached to mouthwatering tenderness-red meats in butter, lamb in olive oil and pork in bacon fat.

Keeping with the nation’s capital’s emphasis on power daytime dining, BOURBON STEAK is one of the first Michael Mina restaurants to serve lunch. Guests can anticipate new salad entrées accompanied by homemade, fresh from the oven bread, each specifically created to complement the salad it is paired with.

Rockwell Group of New York composed a design scheme which reflects the elegant informality of Mina’s modern American cuisine, while also paying tribute to the classical stature of the hotel. Natural materials and crafted accents surround the space, from seeded and rubbed glass, to stitched leather and wood.

Osteria Morini pays homage to the casual and rustic cuisine and ambiance of the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy. Osteria Morini is a casual Italian restaurant from Chef Michael White. In Italian, “osteria” means a place where the owner “hosts” guests, and at Osteria Morini, Chef White continues this tradition of hospitality, transforming his first Washington, D.C. restaurant into an authentic, old-world osteria with soulful food from the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy.

"I had brunch at Morini on Novmber 16. We had a variety of dishes including the testa, crostini and panzanella. All of the food was first class and would easily return to Morini for any meal. The outdoor patio was not open (too cold) but I believe this would make a nice spot for warm weather dining."

Opened in 1999, and chosen by Gourmet Magazine in 2000 as one of "America's Best Restaurants," Johnny's Half Shell relocated to its present Capitol Hill location in September 2006. Renditions of Chesapeake and Gulf Coast Seafood remained the kitchen's focus, and the restaurant's new home maintained its homespun conviviality. Said Washingtonian Magazine, "The capitol dome shines in the background, a reminder of the new, more serious-minded neighbors who come here. But Johnny's still feels like home." In September 2007, New York Times dubbed the new venue a "Capital Gain" for Washington, DC.

"I had a great dinner with 4 separate appetizers: crab cake, fried oysters, 1/2 doz raw oysters and shrimp\grits. All were very good and I would eat them all again. The service was very good & allowed my dining companion to catch her 9pm train at Union Station."

'Owners Mark and Ty Neal--also behind D.C.'s Matchbox restaurants--named the joint after their father, a West Virginian who was the unofficial "cook of the neighborhood." The old-timey throwback feels… like the real deal here; art deco details, like carved marble door frames and metal air vents, are salvaged from the Philadelphia Civic Center circa 1928. Tables--salvaged former doors--are set with folded dish rags and a newspaper-like menu that features comfort food classics such as milkshakes, meatloaf and grilled cheese with tomato soup. Breakfast items such as short stack pancakes and home-made pop tarts are served all day. '- Lauren Sloat at Citysearch about 8th St location.
