"Kitchen on Cary was one of several restaurants my wife, a New York City architect, wanted to try when she was last in town. With our friend, Jeanne (also an architect) we made our way to KoC.
Wines to start were several tastings before picking a very nice and balanced Merlot. Appetizers included the Shrimp and Grits, the Oysters and the Wonton. All greatly appreciated.
The crab cake, we were told, was about 95% crab. Good, but oh that pesky 5%. The seared Ahi was quite tasty. Jean had a dish with Udon noodles, but thought the noodles a bit sweet.
The management was attentive to our comments. Our wait staff was on top of her game.
Atmosphere on a Saturday eve built as we ate, but was never over powering. A power lunch place for sure."

 Heartwood
Heartwood
Heartwood is a warm, rustic, contemporary American restaurant with a core menu of wood- roasted meat, fish, vegetables and wood-fired pizza. Our bar is stocked with a wide selection of local and international wine, beer, whiskies and spirits and our bartenders will craft cocktails to accommodate any taste.

"Looking for an untried spot to meet friends who live in Chelsea South. So on Labor Day weekend the place was quiet at 5:30. By 7:00 it bustled. Difficult choices to make decisions on food and drink. Four appetizers and four pizzas later the four of us felt the breaking out of old habits made the trip worthwhile. And my wife's brother in Portland, OR will be directed here the next time he's in town."

"There are two Boathouse restaurants in Richmond. My wife and I finally made it to number two. It is located in the Brandermill subdivision (well to do) and seemed to be very well attended by the locals. The view on the lake is a western view, and bright sunlight made menu reading difficult. When asking for something shadier we would have been put nearer the steel drum band that was setting up. We stayed. Service was good. Food was 3 1/2 stars.
Wine list was 3 1/2 as well. Deserts held nothing special.
The first Boathouse (at Rocket's Landing) is still better by far."
