"While the restaurant isn't new, it was a first visit for us. We have driven by it many times but being set in from the street, it's easy to miss. This time we made a reservation and were not disappointed. The food is flavorful and hearty....even for the vegetarian among us. The cocktails and wine list were appealing and everyone in our group left satisfied. It seems to have a nice outdoor dining area but at the time, it was not open. We would love to check that out next time we have a sunny evening to enjoy. We will definitely be back."

Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Il Fornaio means "the Baker" in Italian. This award-winning restaurant offers an authentic and unique Italian dining experience.

"The place is nicely appointed and service was attentive but the food was quite mediocre. The Italian food bar is high and for foodies it was very mediocre Italian. The server even recommended ordering from the regular menu rather than the seasonal one...maybe kitchen staff was inexperienced that evening???"

The Café at Chez Panisse, located upstairs, opened in 1980 to offer an alternative to the set menu served in the Restaurant downstairs. The Café offers a moderately priced à la carte menu for both lunch and dinner. It has an open kitchen along one side of the room with a charcoal grill and a wood burning oven. The menu changes daily and is inspired by local, seasonal ingredients. Reservations are recommended. Please call and let the reservationist know if anyone in your party requires special accommodation to access our upstairs Café dining room.

"We are long time fans of Chez Panisse and always look forward to returning. The menu this time was a bit underwhelming for us and we struggled to make a selection. Perhaps because of the season and what's available local and fresh? Nonetheless, we will continue to look forward to returning. One question...such a focus on local produce so why foreign wines??"
