Bistro Voltaire is a favorite of the patron well traveled... wanting to indulge in the sensibilities of France without leaving Chicago.

"Bistro Voltaire has all of the ambience of a bistro in Paris. It even smells French. It's small - maybe 40 seats. There is so much that's positive about it, except for the pork tenderloin. From steak frites to lamb to scallops to bouillabaisse done without salmon upon request, our meal was scrumptious with one exception - the pork tenderloin. It was the last plate to be served and it amounted to four tiny shards of singed pork on a raggedy bunch of shaved brussel sprouts. It should have been sent back. Not sure why it wasn't. Every other plate was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. And the desserts with their homemade gelato were fabulous too. We will definitely be back. We just won't be ordering the pork tenderloin."

Farmhouse is a Midwestern Craft Tavern focused on delivering warm hospitality, great beer and wonderful food in a comfortable neighborhood setting in the heart of River North. Focused on the Midwest, Farmhouse offers 28 beers on draft, 24 from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. We feature local artisanal liquors and a cocktail program created by Adam Seger.

The menu ingredients are harvested from local farmers and change with the Midwestern seasons. Farmhouse offers locally sourced, pastured raised burgers, cuts their our own fries and makes almost everything from scratch on premise. We are a green tavern. 85% of the building materials, furniture and fixtures were salvaged from an abandoned factory on the South Side.

Much of the seating at Farmhouse consists of community tables, seating between eight and ten guests, encouraging a convivial atmosphere. Please be aware that smaller parties are often seated at community tables.
"Can't say enough about our experience at Farmhouse Tavern. I'm a Chicagoan always looking for new places to try and Farmhouse did not disappoint. Wonderful food and spirits sourced locally. Sam, our waiter, was great. Great atmosphere. I'll be returning."

"Barbakoa is just OK. I was excited to go there as the menu is intriguing. Once there, on a Tuesday night, service was slow - waited 20 minutes for a glass of wine - and food was obviously over-priced and a bit redundant. Their salsa trio is three tiny bowls, no more than a shot glass of salsa and a tiny little basket of chips. Guacamole is the same - $8 or $9 for a tiny serving. Ordered the hongos - 4 mini black bean tacos served with no sides - that's a lot of black beans with nothing to add variety. The shrimp ceviche was delicious. We had another ceviche that was also good. We didn't stay for dessert so I cannot comment there.
It has potential but needs work."
