In Capitola-by-the-Sea, beside lush Soquel Creek just before it empties into the Monterey bay, Shadowbrook is best reached by its own quaint, hillside 'cable car' or the meandering garden path alongside waterfalls, ferns and flowers. For over 60 years, Shadowbrook has been famous its for fine food, wine and liqueurs served in an atmosphere of Old World charm and grace. Now, better then ever, Shadowbrook is perfect for any special occasion...or for no occasion at all.

"Have to say - the food was generally pretty good. They did try hard to correct errors and exceptions. I always explain my allergies - So when the ordered item arrives with unknown toppings - we need an explanation. They did take items back to the kitchen to verify that the allergies were not an issue. Wine list is a bit pricey - they do have a pretty good selection of bottles. All food had good flavor - reasonable portion sizes."

Tamarine is a contemporary Vietnamese restaurant that features the light but flavor-intensive culinary delicacies of Vietnam. The restaurant offers a menu based on small plates, promoting the Vietnamese tradition of the 'shared' meal in which food is shared and enjoyed with those close. Tamarine's small plate entrees are enjoyed with the pairing of a variety of aromatic, flavor infused rice, designed to be mixed and matched to create a truly unique flavor experience. Along with culinary delicacies of Vietnam, the restaurant showcases the works of emerging artists from Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries. Semi-annual exhibits will close with a cocktail event to auction the art. Proceeds will be donated to La Maison Chance, an orphanage in Saigon, Vietnam.

"It had been a while since we were to Tamarine - so we decided to drive up. The food was very good as it always had been - the service seemed even more attentive that before. Had a few new dishes and a couple old standards - loved them all."

Grand Cafe
Grand Cafe
Welcome to Grand Cafe

We are a modern French brasserie located in the heart of San Francisco, merging France’s timeless vibrancy with an unmistakable Bay Area flair. Our fresh take on traditional French cuisine is paired with an extensive wine list and hand-crafted apértifs, served in a gilded Barbary Coast ballroom.

But don’t let the grandeur fool you. Dress up, dress down – we are all of the French with none of the fuss. An authentic piece of San Francisco’s past coupled with food that is bold, vibrant and fun.

Just steps from the Curran Theater and nearby Union Square, the Grand Café is an in-the-know destination for locals and tourists alike. (We’ve even been told we’re the place where locals bring their out-of-town guests.) Come by and see for yourself.

"The food is simply average - the service is incredibly slow. Don't even think about a coffee refresh during brunch! The dishes are intended to be creative alterations to standard offerings - however, they don't generate a dynamic result."

While enjoying one of San Francisco's most dramatic views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Marin Headlands, diners savor Chef Annie Somerville’s imaginative vegetarian cuisine that features local seasonal organic produce and the finest ingredients. Greens emphasizes wonderful dishes created with a balance of colors, flavor and a contrast of textures inspired by the cuisines of the Mediterranean, Asia, Mexico and the American Southwest.

"We go here regularly when we are in town. The menu changes in a very good way each time. Only suggestion is the wine list could be expanded."

Bistro Aix is a chef owned neighborhood bistro. Purchasing the finest local ingredients from farmers and selecting grower/producer, naturally made wines is what sets us apart. Recently remodeled, Bistro Aix has been serving our community since February of 1996. Our new California Oak burning grill inspires us in our daily changing menu.

"Great swordfish & salmon specials. Topped off by a very friendly server.
Yes - it was 1/2 price wine bottle Tuesday. However, the wine list needs a serious make over. Too many low quality options. Low price doesn't have to mean low quality - but it did here."
