Stephen Starr brings his signature brand of hospitality and design to the nation’s capital with the opening of Le Diplomate, located at 14th & Q. Serving lunch, brunch and dinner, the stylish 260 seat restaurant transports diners to the beloved cafés of Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris. The extensive menu features a variety of classic dishes including Onion Soup Gratinee, Steak Frites, and Poulet Roti as well as contemporary bistro fare, with dishes such as Shaved Veal Tongue with Mache and Bavette de Boeuf à l’Echalote. A thoughtfully curated wine list and cocktail program perfectly complements the cuisine and creates an environment suitable for romantic dinners or lively group gatherings. In warmer weather, enjoy dining "en plein air" in the stunning outdoor café where you can take in the bustling energy of DC while sipping on the perfect kir royale.

In 2007, we opened Casa Oaxaca in Washington, D.C., a traditional restaurant that brings the flavors and colors of Mexico to the capital city of U.S. Our main objective is to give Washingtonians a better exposure to the richness and diversity of Mexican cuisine. At Casa Oaxaca, mole sauces are our specialty and we have six types that you will be able to taste with chicken, beef, seafood or tortillas.

"LOL, it was chilly outside and very warm inside, a tad too warm in fact! Stuffy! Very busy and crowded, but that is almost always a good sign! Been here a few times so already knew I would love the place, and did again. Tried a different mole dish and was not disappointed at all.
Wish I had time to try them all, maybe they should offer a sampler plate on the menu!"

There is no denying Panache's elegance. The walls are done in a soft shade of wheat, the bar is long and sleek and bouquets of flowers dot the dining room. The dining room chairs are bright yellow, 1950s style lounge artwork hangs on the walls and some weekend nights, the line to get in stretches down the block. It's a jolt of energy across the street from the quiet Mayflower Hotel. Panache serves a range of small plates that make up a gustatory tour of Europe and beyond. Diners can also order one of the larger plates, which include seared Ahi Tuna with a Mango Salsa and Rack of Lamb with Pommery Mustard and Whipped Potatoes. A Three course menu is offered nightly for $35. Additional features are added every week for lunch.

"One of our fave places, usually go at least once a month. The food was great as always and this time we tried things like the scallops, very delicious. Service was a tad slower than normal, but overall a great place to stop by after work!"

"I'm not a bar type, don't mind a spirited bar scene, but this one is really loud! As it gets hotter the noise sky rockets. Wouldn't be so bad if the food was better. We LOVE Lost Society, LOVE it, so our expectations for this place were pretty high as well. Choices were odd. Did like the shrimp grits. Hated the burger, it was the worst looking and tasting burger in history (partner chose the burger cause he hated the menu). The portion sizes were decent. The server was attentive and helpful. But then desert. Ordered our fave from LS, bread pudding. This was crunchy, hard stale, left overs from Lost Society perhaps? Wish LS was at this location instead!"

Bobby Van’s Grill marks the return of the powerful New York City chop shop to the downtown D.C. area but with a new twist. This eclectic New American Steakhouse now boasts a slightly more casual family friendly atmosphere as well as catering to the Washington politician. This 536-seat D.C. destination is fully loaded! There’s four private, intimate and upscale dining rooms with their own bar and bar services. Two 40-foot long bars can be found with friendly bartenders serving strong drinks and even stronger conversations. The main dining room boasts views of both New York Avenue and the plush marble atrium of the adjoining building amidst its beautiful water fountain. This is an ideal place to meet for power lunches, family gatherings and late night dinners in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

"One of our favorite places to go for dinner (and lunch sometimes as well). Just wish they would put the fried chicken at night as we love it! We enjoyed the stead as always and the crab cakes too! Our server seemed a bit "new" as he didn't really know how to answer our questions. But once we got going he was great."

"Its never a good start when you cant find the restaurant. It is inside the hotel, but when you get to the "area" there is no one to greet you and all you can see at that moment is the bar. Perhaps the cocktail area to the right, if that is what it is. An outside patio. To the left, a bit hidden is what I think is the dining area. It was nice enough, once found, and once you find someone to seat you and to serve you.
Once we got a server, he was nice. But either he was pretty busy or not sure what, as he would disappear for long periods of time. Took forever. The food was just meh. The salad was a highlight BLT, great slices of tomatoes, nice bacon, good dressing. The steak was very chewy for its type (ribeye) and flavorless."

"Went on a very slow day, late afternoon, Monday holiday. Hot outside and muggy. Inside, cool and refreshing. They were running their brunch menu but we really wanted items off the dinner menu, our waiter made us comfortable and then served us from the dinner menu. Thoroughly enjoyed and recommend the jalapeno pineapple margarita thing, just hot enough, just cool enough to be perfection. We both thoroughly enjoyed our tacos and our taquitos. And the desert, we have NO room but just had to try it, the tres leches was the perfect closing item. Will be back many times if its always this good!"

"Love Le Diplomate! CAnt always get a table when you want one, but once you do the experience is always a great one. My latest visit was just a table for one, not fun, but dining here helps to make up for that. From the drinks, to the shrimp cocktail to the beef bourguigon, all was fantastic. The ONLY issue I had, and its really a fairly minor one to be honest - was my table placement. I had a table (for one) right next to a divider that the staff uses to go into and out of the kitchen (I presume). Some staff seem to like to knock on that divider. When you are sitting right there, getting a knock can be a bit disconcerting! It didn't happen often, just enough to be memorable in the wrong way. Won't keep me from coming back!"

"Always worry when going to a place this is close to closing time, but FF didn't make me feel that way at all. Seated, order taken, food prepared and delivered as if closing was still hours away. No rushing! And the food tasted as great as if it wasn't time for the kitchen to close as well. Fried green tomatoes, bacon lollipops (what a concept!), and chicken and waffles, great way to close out the day!"
