Etien's Reviews

With a name that translates from the Italian as "little grandmother", this dining spot offers the authentic cooking of Italy in an elegant ambience. Owner Paul Aniboli collaborated with managing partner Robert DiPierro and executive chef Richard Soriano on a new journey in traditional Italian cuisine with a trendy fine-dining atmosphere. Diners will be immediately impressed upon entering this chic, upscale yet comfortable establishment. Vintage Italian poster art can be found decorating the walls in all areas of the restaurant. The bistro/bar area is very inviting, lined with intimate tables, beige suede chairs and plush leather couches warmed by a fireplace and exposed brick. Rated 3 stars by Newsday's Peter Gianotti, Nonnina provides exceptional Italian cuisine and professional service.

"I've been to Nonnina several times as it is in the neighborhood. The staff is always accommodating and the service is solid. There seems to be a lot of turn over in the wait staff but they still manage to field a good crew. I rate the food on average as good but they have both some outstanding dishes ( swordfish special) and some not so good. The upstairs is better then down as the bar scene can be a bit much.
Nonninas is a good, solid choice."

 Da Ciro
Da Ciro
"Since opening Da Ciro's doors in 1995, Executive Chef and Owner, Ciro Verdi, has been and continues to offer some of the finest regional Italian cuisine in New York City! Putting an emphasis on the art of cooking in a wood-burning oven, Ciro has blended his cuisine with a semi-traditional Italian rustic flare to create a sophisticated yet unpretentious atmosphere. Da Ciro...modest sophistication humbled by true hospitality!"<br />

"Located on Lexington avenue right off 34th street it's easy to walk past this place without ever noticing. Once inside the place has a vibrant bar scene with some nice energy. Upstairs dining room is cozy and quiet. Food was food as was the service. We were there on. Tuesday evening and it had a good crowd. Definitely a staple for those who live and work in the neighborhood or those communizing to LI looking for a good place before the arduous drive home. Worth the trip."

"My wife and I were in Miami during February break. A busy week in town with the boat show and the food and wine festival. We are used to the high season treatment, high prices and impatient service. Not the case at Michael Mina. The bartenders were sweet and accommodating. Our server was young and a bit inexperienced but her recommendations were spot on. The sommelier came to the table and offered us a great bottle off the menu and even told us the price in advance. The food was outstanding. The best we have had in Miami on this or any trip. A great experience, we would highly recommend Michael Mina 74."
