In our signature restaurant, A.R. Valentien, Chef Jeff Jackson showcases, fresh market driven seafood, meats, produce and dairy products.<br />The menu is determined and influenced by what is available at any given time during the various seasons. Certain farms have been commissioned to produce items specific to the Lodge. Local small fish and seafood companies who deal in regional Southern California and Baja "catches" are utilized, as well as other west coast purveyors.<br />Out of respect for the quality of the foodstuffs available, the cooking is somewhat restrained in order to take advantage of the natural flavors and textures of the ingredients.<br />Because of this more "hands off" approach and the use of simple seasonings, various olive oils, and intense broths and juices as flavoring mediums, the dishes retain their nutritional integrity as well.

"We went to AR Valentien for breakfast and the food was wonderful as was the ambiance. The breakfast was terrific that we went back again the same day for dinner. Dinner was disappointing - the service and food. We told our waitress we were on a gluten free diet but we weren't offered any gluten free options. We overheard at the table in front of us from another waiter that the chef could make them gluten free muffins and other offerings. When we asked the waitress about this she told us it was available but that it would take 15-20 minutes to order the muffins and that our food was going to be served now. Although we were given the muffins on the way out, the dinner wasn't that good and the service was lacking. I woudn't go back for dinner."

"The service by waitress, Lena was awful. She gave us major attitude and did not really check on us during our dinner. We had to actually get up and find her in order to obtain our bill. We also got our sides 10 minutes after our filets arrived, therefore eating our steak cold with our warm sides. The desert took a long time even though we ordered a slice of pie. By the time the pie arrived, we had already finished our coffee and tea. Had Lena been professional, it would have been a better experience. However, it was unpleasant.
I recommend going to Flemings instead. We typically go back and forth between Flemings and Chart House. However, we will frequent Flemings more often and the service is MUCH better.
