"Wonderful spot for lunch. The menu is small but tempting. I finally decided on the hen of the woods mushroom entree. It was like a risotto without the rice - cracked wheat porridge with mushrooms, turnips and salsa verde. Delicious! I'd like to try the black cod and hamburger on future visits. For dessert, I chose among several soft serve ice cream w/toppings. I had the vanilla with honey and rolled oats - a terrific end to a lovely lunch. The server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the decor is very attractive. I highly recommend Alta CA!"

"I had fond memories of the wild mushroom pizza which I had ~ 6 years ago, so I ordered it again. It was just as delicious as I remembered. For dessert, I had the tarte tatin which was good but not great. I was very impressed with the service. The staff was efficient and professional. My server knew just how much attention to give me. He wasn't intrusive, but did stop at my table to tell me that my pizza would be ready in a few minutes."

Local. Seasonal. Delicious.<br /><br />With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."<br /><br />At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes. Good times and thoughtful food are a way of life at Paul Martin's American Grill.

"I don't like chains, but wanted to give this one a try. I had some trepidation, since it has the same ownership as Flemings, which is overpriced & nothing special. I've been there once & will not return. Paul Martin's must use the same training manual, since the approach of the servers is similar. The emphasis seems to be on selling add'l items. Also, I am able to read & don't need to be told that the menu is divided into sections such as appetizers & entrees. Finally, I wish the training would include the fact that the dessert menu should not be offered while the diner is still eating the entree! My server was pleasant & certainly deserving of better training. The food was good - hamburger w/fries & pear huckleberry crumble for dessert."

Scratch features American cookery in an elegant setting. The cuisine is based on the premise of simple food done well and draws from American classics reflecting today's influences and bounty of ingredients. Choose from a tender moist braised short rib, rotisserie chicken, or perhaps a selection from our fresh seafood and oyster bar.<br /><br />For beverages Scratch has researched some of the finest vineyards and distilleries in the United States. We have a wide variety of wines and spirits to choose from in all price ranges. Some of our wine and spirits are highly allocated and will not always be available.<br /><br />Scratch also offers a vegetarian menu. <br />

"I went for a pre-Smuin Christmas ballet lunch. The hamburger was very good. Loved the housemade hamburger bun. For dessert I had the chocolate cup filled with peanut butter mousse and bananas, called the Elvis of course. The server was friendly and efficient but could use some training. I was still eating my french fries when she asked me if I wanted to look at the dessert menu."
