"33 East 61st Street previously housed one of the great sushi/sashimi restaurants in all of Manhattan, though about two years ago the maitre d' changed, waiters left, and suddenly GEISHA closed. At first it was promised they would re-open nearby but it never happened. We waited a long time before trying its replacement, Serafina Fabulous Grill, and despite it having been re-designed to remove any Asian ambiance, this was for us a disaster. The filet mignon hamburger asked to be cooked "medium" was definitely not filet mignon, one could tell just by looking at it, and it appeared not only to be old but overcooked. It was given back to the waitress who admittedly threw it away. The other dish ordered was lasagne bolognese which was simply a layer or two of wide flat pasta with a thin topping of ground meat sauce. The layer of meat was ample and served with shredded cheese, so in the end it was edible but certainly not what I could ever imagine should be called lasagne. The glass of Cabernet Sauvignon was acceptable but a minimal serving compared to what we could observe being given to other tables. This was an experience we plan never to be repeated.. Supposedly the owners of Serafina are also the owners of Geisha, but they killed off the wrong restaurant. Anyone who eats here and likes it simply doesn't know food and would eat anything. The serving staff were well-mannered and polite but that cannot make up for a bad kitchen, unfortunately."

Fine Northern Italian cuisine is offered in a casual yet sophisticated setting where New York's elite congregate to see and be seen. Fresh flowers enhance the brightly lit dining room that opens onto Madison Avenue in warmer weather. Selections include pastas and fresh seafood with their signature shaved truffles.

"Open Table cautions that one should be aware the cost of food is expensive here, but having said that, the quality and refinement of what you get is remarkable. Everything is freshly prepared to order with the highest level of expertise. It doesn't get better than what you get at Nello. And with such a high-end menu the restaurant is busy but not overcrowded."

Amali is a sustainably driven Mediterranean restaurant. Rather than write about ourselves, we prefer to let the press speak for us.<br /><br />Wine Enthusiast, Top 100 Wine Restaurants in the Country, 2014<br /><br />Eater 38 Essential New York Restaurants 2013-2014<br />"This handsome Mediterranean restaurant serves one of the city's top brick chickens, and the seafood, pasta dishes, and charcuterie are just as good. Amali is...a destination for Greek wine enthusiasts."<br /><br />Critic's Recommendation, New York Times, 2012: "Amali has a commitment to seasonality and sustainability and a daring wine list."<br /><br />Two Stars, New York Magazine, 2012: "It gives over a whole section of the menu to salads and vegetables along with an impressive wine bottle list."<br /><br />Wine & Spirits Magazine, Top Newcomer. "Amali takes an American approach to Mediterranean ingredients, creating something that is at once more Greek than any restaurant and less ethnic than any of them."

"For many years I have enjoyed this restaurant as a Greek Taverna, but every decade or so it goes through a name change and perhaps a new owner. In the past I had dinner at Amali which included wonderful fresh fish and as I recall, the portions were plentiful. This time I was there for lunch on a weekday with three guests and the service was somewhat slow and sleepy even though the restaurant itself was about 80% full. There was no lunch menu, which surprised me; the waitress said everything is served a la carte. Two of us ordered lamb-burgers ($18) which were not only delicious but substantial in size; the vegan salad was minimal ($15), but my pasta with bolognese sauce was definitely meagre in quantity ($25). I will not be going back."
