Where southeastern Europe meets South East D.C.

Our aim is to put together the finest products of the New World and Old World for your dining pleasure. Perennially on the edge of great empires, the Balkans owes much of its food culture to its history, geography, and climate. The term Balkan is generally believed to come from the Turkish word meaning: “a chain of wooded mountains.” With a desire to introduce Washington, D.C. to cutting edge Balkan cuisine, proprietor Ivan Iricanin has created a dining space that will delight and indulge the senses. Primarily featuring “small plates,” Ambar will also offer wines and spirits from the Balkans not often experienced by the American diner.

Join us for Valentine's Day dinner! Enjoy a prix fixe, three selection + dessert menu for 55 per person or a prix fixe, three selection + dessert + wine tasting for 75 per person (Only available menu).

"The bottomless menu is great--plenty of food choices, bottomless drinks from a good range of options, and never a feeling of being squeezed or limited."

The Occidental Grill & Seafood blends modern creativity with time-honored tradition in D.C.'s most stunning setting. Explore a comprehensive photography collection of famous 20th Century personalities, while choosing from over 200 wines to compliment Chef Rodney Scruggs's innovative Classic American menu. Just steps away from the White House and the Warner and National Theatre's.

"The 12-egg-yolk pappardelle is one of the best items on the menu. It's lush and rich. The wait staff are friendly and skilled, and the wine list is extensive enough to offer a couple of interesting choices. Good place for a relaxing dinner in a storied atmosphere."
