"We expected great food, and we're not disappointed. The ravioli, grilled romaine, empanadas, and skirt steak had deep flavors that made you want more and more. Rarely do I see a desert menu where there are so many attractive options. It's rare to find tartufo on a dessert menu and theirs was king size with decadent flavors to match.
Unfortunately, the service was poor. Once all our guests arrived and the waiter took our order, we saw him only three more times, mostly because we had to either stop him or grab another waiter to find him. While I can understand being short staffed (although it was never mentioned), he was unapologetic even after taking dessert orders from only two guests and rushing off before asking the third guest if they wanted anything. When we could track him down, he was very uninterested and rushed.
The noise level was very high once the restaurant was full, and we found ourselves leaning into the center of the table to hear each other speak. So if you love great food, and are willing to sacrifice high service and audible conversation, this place was wonderful. Perhaps the service was an off night, and we might try it again. However, there are so many great options in town that value our patronage, it might be awhile before we go back and see if it was an off night."
At each visit, the Rao's family wants it to feel as if yours is the only table in the room. The impeccable Southern Italian fare stems from the dishes' high-quality ingredients, such as house-roasted red peppers, freshly grated Pecorino-Romano and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheeses, Felipo Berio olive oil and certified San Marzano plum tomatoes imported from Italy. For more than 115 years, that's the way the family has cooked in their iconic New York kitchen, and tradition is alive and well at their Las Vegas restaurant.

The time-honored staples include perfectly cooked pastas, risottos and the mouthwatering steak bistecca; cooked perfectly and sliced tableside. The classic veal chop is pan-seared and topped with a medley of hot and sweet cherry peppers.

"After having two of the better meals in my life at Ramsey Steak and Nobu's, I expected similar from Rao's. Their NY reputation is larger than life and their prices are commensurate with other highly rated restaurants in Vegas. Sadly (very sadly), the food was just OK ... Less than OK for the price. Flavors were consistent with cheaper Italian meals I've had, and nothing had a Wow factor."
