The extensive 2500-bottle wine selection complements the sophisticated dining experience. Guests will enjoy the elegant setting and exquisite art collection indoors as well as dining on the terrace, with panoramic views of the lake. The Umstead’s Bar is also available to local diners and hotel guests for a more casual experience. Herons, a Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond Restaurant, serves breakfast and lunch daily, weekend brunch and dinner Monday - Saturday.

"We made our reservation for our 20th anniversary a long while in advance. Due to weather the restaurant ended up closing and canceling our reservations twice. The third reservation, we checked in an hour early and were not seated until well after our reservation time. We then waited 30 minutes to get WATER and a gluten free menu. Our server was not knowledgeable about the wine menu and was unable to make recommendations. The salad was overdressed, and the lettuce far beyond its prime. The Secondi course was ok, however overall my stuffed pasta was cold in the middle, and by cold I mean fridge cold & and was missing various ingredients. Desert was a train wreck brulee was undercooked and tasted like pudding. Overall, a grand disappointment."
