"The food was average, although being from New York, I have high Italian food expectations. It was a great place for a group and the service was very good. I would recommend for a group, but not for a general dinner."

Bess is an authentic bistro in the Stratford Arms building at 500 West Sixth Street, Austin's Old Pecan Street. Originally the Stratford Apartments built in 1918, the vintage building's old bank vault is Bess' kitchen today. Hand-crafted beers, wines and liquors are served from a stunning pewter bar custom-made in Montbazon. The ambiance provides a unique blend of casual elegance, cheeky ease, and European flair. The menu deliberately defies classification, serving eclectic fare such as Creole inspired Shrimp Bess, Mussels from Prince Edward Island, Steak Frites and old-fashioned Mac & Cheese. Natural, organic and local, the menu's common thread is the passion of the chef.

"Amazing place! Ambiance and service were impeccable - from Miguel the bartender to our server, Ryan, they went above and beyond to make our celebration dinner special. The food was also amazing. I would definitely recommend and would definitely come back. Very trendy and great in all aspects."

While PUBLIC’s cuisine is a fusion of flavors from around the world, the restaurant’s vibe is unmistakably Manhattan. Located on a tree-lined street in Nolita, this airy modern-minimalist eatery exudes sophisticated charm with details like library card catalogs, old-fashioned mailboxes, a large flowering tree and a cozy back lounge with a fireplace.

The Australasian cuisine inspired by Executive Chef Brad Farmerie’s London training and travels through Australia, New Zealand, and the East features a menu that “knows no ethnic borders.” The restaurant was awarded a coveted Michelin Star in the 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 New York Guides.
PUBLIC also received a myriad of awards for its design, including ‘Best Restaurant Graphics’ and ‘Best Restaurant Design’ by the James Beard Foundation.

PUBLIC is owned and operated by design and concept firm AvroKO.

The Musket Room brings the spirit of New Zealand and the country’s diverse cuisine to Manhattan’s Nolita neighborhood. Chef and owner Matt Lambert, a New Zealand native, created a menu that charts the evolution of New Zealand cuisine, from the country’s Old World traditions and Asian influences to its modern day dedication to local and seasonal offerings.

Inspired by an era in New Zealand when adventure and discovery blossomed, The Musket Room offers a modern approach to the country’s culinary past, serving dinner and drinks.

We accept reservations through Opentable for the front dining room only, which offers a la carte and six-course tasting menus upon request. For reservations in our garden room, which is tasting menu ONLY, please email events@musketroom.com or by phone at 212.219.0764. We accept reservations for the garden room starting at 10AM, seven days a week, up to 28 days in advance.
