Founded by Ayesha Abraham, Mama Ayesha's opened for business in 1960. We are a family owned and operated restaurant serving authentic Arabic cuisine. Enjoy a fresh fattoush salad, some hummus, or some falafel to open you appetite. Main dishes include lamb, chicken, and beef dishes cooked over our charcoal grill. Or try one of our stuffed specialties such as our stuffed yellow squash or grape leaves. Plenty of vegetarian as well as vegan options also available. With dishes prepared daily from scratch you can be sure you're getting the closest thing to home cooking. We are glad to be moving forward into our 5th decade of serving the Washington, DC area. Many of our guests can tell you that when you’re here at Mama Ayesha’s, you’re family!

The Grill From Ipanema is the only authentic Brazilian restaurant in town. This restaurant takes pride in its hospitality and is committed to offering the best culinary experience so that one can truly taste traditional Brazilian cookery with different flavors and from different regions in Brazil. The inspiration of the menu is a reflection of the people, different cultures, and flavors within Brazil. Try our "Moqueca Mista a Baiana" style, it is a mixed seafood stew of fish, shrimp, mussels, squid, clams and scallops is prepared in a blend of palm oil and coconut milk with fresh cilantro, tomato, onion, scallions and green pepper (Please indicate how spicy) served in a clay pot with rice and fish broth, and a yucca purée on the side. Grill from Ipanema is a delightful surprise to anyone interested in a unique adventure from way down south.

"We chose this local restaurant for the first time en route to the Gala Theatre. Great find. Lovely welcome from one of the family owners. Tried an excellent Brazilian cocktail in their happy hour and then opted for the caldeirana with sea food. Lovely food and great friendly and efficient staff. The restaurant is now on our list - and we will return"

"First impressions were that this is a pretty noisy outlet. However, as requested we were escorted to a quiet table. Service was good, although it took 2 requests to get some water. Had a nice (very small) caesar to start washed down with a nice Sangiovese. Foolishly ordered the paella special. Worst paella I've ever tasted. Not oven cooked. Rice not soaked in seafood broth and saffron. Fatty chicken and seafood merely added to stodgy rice. Ugh! Should be avoided absolutely. Oh, and they don't know that they are obliged to take service dogs."

We source the finest, sustainable & local ingredients to create handcrafted food & beverages.

Our setting is unmatched and the best casual, neighborhood dining in the West End. The bar is ornately decorated with massive mirrors, large columns and a multitude of glowing candles. These, along with the open kitchen where flames leap from the grill, create a warmth and intimacy in a casual atmosphere.

"No problems this time. I had the special crab tower, which was very good and included plenty of crab. My wife had the excellent mahi mahi and my son the mixed grills, all reportedly very good and washed down with a nice bottle of Bodini Malbec. Maya was an excellent server. All for $170. Pretty good"

Chef Martin Lackovic, formerly of Galileo, I Matti and The Caucus Room, opens Siroc Restaurant on McPherson Square with brothers Keram and Mehdi Dris, who run the front of the house. Siroc's seasonal menu features cooking inspired by Italy and the Mediterranean with housemade pastas, charcuterie, salads and entrées. The new restaurant takes its name from a wind that blows from northern Africa to Italy and the Mediterranean.

"Although quickly checked in and led to our table for an early pre-theatre dinner, the wait staff were otherwise occupied, and provided perfunctory service when available. We skipped starters, were warned we would have to wait 15 mins for the mains. Egg plant wrapped with lamb was OK but actually reheated, as was my wife's snapper filet; piping hot plates was the giveaway. Best thing about the meal was a wonderful glass of Umbrian 70% Sangiovese. At $106 for this little lot, the restaurant offers poor value. We visit Italy regularly. This restaurant would never survive in Italy."

"This was a return visit. We had the same excellent server as last time. Ordered the lobster special, which was very good, with linguine and garlic sauce. My wife ordered the mahi mahi topped with pistaccio, with mashed potato mixed with truffles, and asparagus. This was tired and disappointing. However, fair enough, when we complained our server sent the manager over who was very apologetic took it off our bill and also added a nice piece of lime pie. These things do happen but Grillfish handled this situation very well. So, will we return? Absolutely."
