Sandy's Reviews

Situated in the heart of the upscale Chevy Chase shopping district, the decor of this two-level restaurant celebrates the golden age of travel with steamships, planes, and the famed Orient Express rail line. Chef Derrick Jackson uses flavorful, fresh ingredients to prepare American-style cuisine in the Travel Rooms on the main level, or in the casual atmosphere of the downstairs Race Bar and Dining Room. Bar on main level, and a new outside bar and dining area.

"we were a little surprised by and disappointed in the food, it was just average. we're used to better food at Clyde's, altho it was our first visit to the Chevy Chase restaurant. we've had much better at their Georgetown and Chinatown outposts. Two of us had their "special" - the pot roast - it was ok, but lacked any zip. I had the cod with brussel sprouts, which was fine, but again, nothing to rave about. It was as if the kitchen has to cater to a clientele that prefers, perhaps demands, their food on the bland, unseasoned side. the service was excellent - a nice, attentive young man made the dining experience very enjoyable. would we return? probably not. we'd revisit the other two restaurants and hope the food and experience are still as good as we remember them."

Virtue is a modern American tavern located near the Potomac River in Old Town, Alexandria. Our menu offers an array of farm-fresh food and refreshing cocktails to please your tastebuds, and a vibrant atmosphere to make for an enjoyable dining experience at any time of day! Housed in a historic feed & grain warehouse from the late 1800s, Virtue's stunning rustic modern decor is sure to impress.

"We have loved Virtue since it opened, esp its unique Irish dishes created by Cathal Armstrong.
Now I get that the average tourist doesn't want to try bone marrow, but the menu has become too pedestrian with the usual sprinkling of burgers, crab cake sandwiches, etc. My crab benedict for brunch was fine except for the overly salty potatoes. But as a convivial and relaxing place to hang out with friends and for special occasions, the place still has it. Love the openness & spaciousness of the 2nd floor, the sheer curtain dividers, the cozy multi-sofa seating for guests in the center and the large, long tables for families and groups. Glad the servers don't have to wear grey workman shirts anymore; they used to look like plumbers. We'll still go to Virtue, we just wish some items were better and the food more interesting. The host was very friendly and came around twice. I didn't want to make him unhappy by airing my food thoughts, so here they are instead.
